Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for an entry-level Building Science Analyst to support our mission of enhancing energy efficiency in buildings. This role will involve contributing technical expertise to identify, assess, and implement sustainable energy and environmental design strategies during the architectural design process, ultimately helping us achieve zero-carbon projects by 2030.

This position requires substantial interaction with architects and building services engineers.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct building performance analyses and technical evaluations of architectural, thermal, daylighting, and energy-related systems.
  • Model and analyze energy and carbon usage in buildings to meet program guidelines or code requirements using software such as IES-VE, ClimateStudio, or EnergyPlus.
  • Assess code requirements and provide interpretations to identify opportunities for energy and carbon savings.
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses of energy efficiency measures to determine their economic impact.
  • Document modeling assumptions, methodologies, and results for transparency and reporting purposes.
  • Demonstrate initiative in addressing client concerns and proactively advocate for energy and carbon-efficient solutions.
  • Perform design reviews for new construction projects, maintain energy models, and create reports and graphical presentations to effectively communicate energy and carbon efficiency strategies.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in conducting comprehensive building analyses and developing energy and carbon efficiency recommendations.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field is required. An advanced degree in Building Science is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of building energy theory, principles, and practices, with proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and high level of accuracy in data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with senior-level stakeholders.
  • Skilled in using databases, spreadsheets, and energy simulation software. Experience with 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, and/or SketchUp) is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with construction practices and terminology, enabling effective collaboration with design and construction teams.
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and providing technical recommendations across diverse projects.


Additional desired skills:

  • Proficient at energy modeling using IES-VE (favored) and/or other energy related software like EnergyPlus, ClimateStudio, DOE-2, eQuest, etc.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, CA Title 24 energy codes/standards.
  • Knowledge of sustainable building practices, LEED, ILFI, Energy Star, etc.
  • In-depth understanding of project documentation related to energy systems and sustainable design, including energy modeling inputs and outputs, LEED and ILFI templates, calculations, specifications, as well as architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) drawings.


The position can be based in our Kansas City (HQ), Denver, or New York offices, and is a full-time position.

Additional details:

  • Travel will be required.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.


Compensation:

  • The projected salary range for this opportunity is $84,000 - $105,000 annually, and may be more or less depending on skills, experience and education.
