Position Details:

As a Senior Software Engineer Coach, you will work across people, process, and technology to guide teams along their continuous improvement journey and empower them to make better software.

You will partner with Technical Practice leads and participate in a range of activities to better understand the broad product and technical roadmap of Grainger Technology Group (GTG) and what it will take to deliver for our customers.

Reporting to the Sr Manager of Coaching and Dojo, you will be based either in Chicago or Lake Forest, IL or remotely.



You Will:
  • Work with diverse teams to understand how work moves to engineering teams and how they communicate progress and impediments.
  • Within a Dojo (Immersive learning) team, lead and coach development teams in implementing DevSecOps good practices related to developing, securing, deploying, and maintaining software solutions.
  • Have a bias towards action. Build software pipelines that provide fast feedback and coach the team on how to maintain them on their own.
  • Have high curiosity quotient and Technical Agility. Know how to use and teach people how to use platforms and shared capabilities built by other teams to learn new and evolving technologies.
  • Should have a fundamental understanding and appreciation of large enterprise System and complexities of interaction between diverse modules, monoliths and /or microservices. Should be able to assess maturity of systems and articulate value streams and or bottlenecks if any.
  • Collaborate with Agile, Security, Testing, SRE and other partners to continually enhance immersive learning programs.
  • Work closely with the Development, Security, Infrastructure, Operations and Testing teams to make sure Continuous Security, Infrastructure as a Code, Continuous Testing and Monitoring are integral part of the software development value stream.
  • Provide hands-on assistance and guidance of environment setup (dev, test, prod), pipeline automation, and streamlining the standup and scale-out of infrastructure.


You Have:
  • At least 5 years of experience working in or with technology teams
  • Experience building production applications or components in 2 or more programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Node.JS, ReactJS, or other.
  • Experience working in a public Cloud (AWS, etc) across multiple services and technologies including containerization (Kubernetes), a microservices architecture, application services, databases and networking
  • Experience with cone
