Stanford University's Continuing Studies Program (CSP) is a premier adult learning program offering more than 600 courses, workshops, and seminars to more than 17,000 students annually. The mission of Stanford Continuing Studies is to share the rich educational resources of Stanford University with adult students living in the Bay Area and beyond.

Stanford Continuing Studies is seeking an Academic Technology Specialist to join our Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT) team. The LDT team serves as the central part of Stanford Continuing Studies’ online learning initiative, and its effort to use educational technologies across its program. The Academic Technology Specialist will be an expert at Zoom account administration and have a strong understanding of online and in-classroom learning tools and technologies. They should be able to think strategically about instructional technology and be able to conceptualize and implement solutions. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-focused mindset. The ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines and communicate clearly with collaborators will be central to success in this position.   • This is a 75% FTE exempt position. This hybrid/remote role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.


Responsibilities Include

  • Manage the department’s Zoom account. Act as a liaison between Zoom and program. Stay abreast of updates and communicate new features or processes to staff and instructors. Assign licenses, monitor usage, and conduct quarterly audits to update users and delete old recordings.
  • Coordinate and support the use of Zoom. Train staff and instructors; respond to help tickets; monitor class sessions and provide assistance as needed. Stay informed of Zoom best practices and implement them accordingly.
  • Serve as Zoom host for large-enrollment and high-profile courses and virtual events such as webinars.
  • Assist with quarterly setup of online tools including Zoom, Panopto, and Canvas.
  • Liaise with other Stanford departments to develop and improve processes for delivery of large hybrid courses.
  • Manage instructors’ textbook requests.
  • Provide high-quality technical support to students, instructors, and staff working with our educational technology tools.
  • Create and maintain tutorial videos and other resources that allow instructors and students to be as self-sufficient as possible.
  • Stay informed of instructional technology developments. Evaluate, recommend, and implement new tools, software, techniques, and solutions that can improve learning and teaching, both online and in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with other departments on campus, as needed. Stay current with University e-learning initiatives and information system/security standards.
  • The ATS will work 2-3 evening shifts per week to host and provide support for online classes.

To Be Successful In The Position, You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build strong working relationships with a diverse community of instructors, staff, and students.
  • Expertise with Zoom, as well as strong knowledge of online learning technologies.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • The ability to manage a complex workload and prioritize tasks.
  • A growth mindset and love of learning.


In Addition, Preferred Requirements Include

  • Demonstrated experience training instructors on the use of Zoom.
  • Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with members of the academic community.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical training to a non-technical audience.
  • Demonstrated expertise with best practices for online learning.
  • Knowledge of Macintosh and Windows environments.


The expected pay range for this position is $76,353 to $87,848 per annum. Or $55,188 to $74,860 if remote, outside of the 10-county Stanford region. The actual pay will be pro-rated based on the 75% FTE.
