System Engineer

The System Engineer is responsible for providing enterprise systems engineering and strategy support to the NBIS program, applying mission level thinking and a systematic approach to design and develop system capabilities that meet stakeholder needs and expectations. The System Engineer applies scientific, engineering, and specialty engineering principles and techniques to analyze alternatives and incorporate design features that meet requirements, as well as system security engineering principles and iterative software development methodologies and tools. The System Engineer coordinates with relevant teams and stakeholders, generates and delivers regular reports, maintains and updates engineering documentation, conducts data audits and clean-up activities, develops and implements remediation plans, provides cost estimates and timelines, supports the review and resolution of engineering change requests, and supports continuous improvement initiatives and best practices in engineering processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in systems engineering, preferably in the defense or security sector.

  • Experience in applying systems engineering methodologies and best practices, such as IEEE, INCOSE, or SEBoK.

  • Experience in applying system security engineering principles and practices, such as NIST, ISO, or RMF.

  • Experience in applying iterative software development methodologies and tools, such as Agile, Scrum, or DevOps.

  • Experience in applying information technology engineering principles, techniques, and cybersecurity best practices.

  • Experience in working with virtualized (cloud-based) hardware and software.

  • Experience in working with DoD and DCSA level policies, directives, instructions, and guidance.

  • Experience in providing engineering facilitation support to senior engineers, product managers, and product owners.

  • Experience in performing integration support, configuration management, and interface management.

  • Experience in generating and delivering regular reports on engineering activities, issues, risks, and recommendations.

  • Experience in maintaining and updating engineering documentation, plans, artifacts, and tools.

  • Experience in conducting data audits and clean-up activities to ensure data quality and integrity.

  • Experience in developing and implementing remediation plans to address identified gaps in operational systems.

  • Experience in providing cost estimates and timelines for engineering tasks and deliverables.

  • Experience in supporting the review and resolution of engineering change requests.

  • Experience in supporting continuous improvement initiatives and best practices in engineering processes.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
