Luna Data Solutions has an immediate long term contract position opening (contract term a minimum of 12 months, with possible extension into multi-year) for a Mainframe/NPL Developer resource with our public sector industry client located in Austin, TX. *This is a 100% remote position, but this resource must currently reside in the state of Texas.
Role: Mainframe/NPL Developer

Role Description:

The client is seeking an experienced skilled programmer with strong proficiency in Natural programming language. Must have extensive, proven experience as Natural developer and an in-depth understanding of mainframe systems. The candidate will provide support for development, architecture, and overall administration for projects and for mainframe operations. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
Key Activities/Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and maintain Mainframe Natural program and JCL to meet project and operations.
  • Be part of project and operations teams to develop necessary analysis and documentation in a collaborative way.
  • Adhere to change control processes and procedures defined by agency.
  • Interface with business and IT teams to understand business needs and translate requirements into formal technical requirements and application code.
  • Together with application users, identity the possibility of the automation of existing manual processes through the data integration of mainframe and external (non-mainframe) systems.
  • Work with IT support teams to ensure support and project requirements are developed and implement successfully.
  • Develop and execute unit test and system test plans to validate that application changes meet technical specifications.
  • Responsible for full System Development Life Cycle.
  • Develop or assist-in developing test plans and test activities and/or execute test components to ensure new programs meet business requirements and function as needed.
  • Review and assist in reviewing documentation and performing quality assurance to ensure compliance with program requirements and procedural standards for the assigned project.
  • Maintain a reliable and predictable work schedule. Worker may be requested to work outside of normal business hours to sustain operations or complete urgent assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to maintain IT operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Mainframe Developer/Programmer Analyst with Natural programming.
  • Minimum of 8 years of demonstrated foundational experience with large-scale, complex mainframe productions systems.
  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in design, implementation, and productions support of applications.
  • Minimum of 8 years Mainframe development background in design, analysis, and coding: Natural programming, TSO/ISPF, JCL, and DB2. Other skills: VSAM files.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working in a global environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize business impact and urgency.
  • Ability to perform application support tasks like systems support, security reviews, and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and methodologies quickly.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience creating project documentation such as: technical specifications, process workflow, and database record and field specifications.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience to troubleshoot/resolve incidents and business support items in Mainframe.
  • Minimum of 4 years of testing experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in database management systems (IBM Data Studio, Squirrel).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Programmer, Analyst, or Systems Administrator.
