Summary of Position
The Windows Systems Engineer manages and maintains our Windows Server environment and company infrastructure, including Active Directory (DNS, DHCP, GPO management), MS Exchange, VMWare, and Office 365. The primary responsibility is working within our engineering team to complete ongoing hardware/software maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring and control of infrastructure and virtualization resources. Activities include assessment, design, implementation, configuration, documentation, coordination, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, usage monitoring and the development of specialized procedures for systems. Investigate problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test, and implement solutions.
Essential Functions
- Is accountable for a set of infrastructure components.
- Performs system administration duties within the infrastructure department within broadly defined specifications of moderate complexity.
- Works with more complex sets of infrastructure components. Provides input on design elements and implementation. May work with higher-level staff to modify/provide input to the process. Substantial resources would be required to correct errors. The impact of decisions can reach multiple departments or across the business units. Functions with limited oversight. Participates in project implementation.
- Accountable for maintaining and updating operational documentation.
- Performs account maintenance and system patching.
- Analyzes point threats, determines security solutions, and performs performance tuning activities.
- Translates customer needs (within IT) into sound technical infrastructure solutions.
- Responds to escalated support requests (Tier 2/3).
- Responsible for creating RCA (root cause analysis)
- Conducts testing of infrastructure patches and updates before deployment
- Troubleshoots network and/or server issues.
- Participates in project meetings/updates.
- Develop estimates for own work.
- Provides backup and restore services.
- Maintains relationship with product vendor.
- Provides timely notification to customers.
- Performs routine maintenance to ensure that all supported devices remain compliant with existing standards and policies.
- Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the systems.
- Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent education, training or experience). Additional certifications may be required depending on business area supported.
Skills and Experience: Skills and experience typically acquired through 5-8 year s systems administration experience. Has extensive knowledge of business area and technology. Considered a specialist in the field(s) within the organizational unit. Demonstrates project management and systems analysis skills. Demonstrates advanced verbal/written communication skills
Working Conditions
Working conditions are normal for a busy office environment. Work requires extensive work using a computer. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to the needs of the systems being supported. Will be part of a weekly on-call rotation.
Must possess the ability to transport and lift hardware components such as PCs, server equipment, etc.
