Job Description

Under the supervision of the assistant director for enterprise planning, the senior planning analyst focuses on significant research and intelligence activities. In general, the incumbent describes the external environment, assesses ASU's performance, and helps set enterprise goals. The incumbent characterizes the economic, social, and policy-related trends that affect ASU's plans; monitors the strategies and finances of organizations relevant to those plans, including other universities, corporations, and governments; and analyzes information about technologies and industries.
To do this work, the incumbent applies various research methods to data from many sources: financial filings, news stories, social media content, published interviews, and many administrative datasets, such as the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey Public Use Microdata Sample, Current Population Survey, and Decennial Census; the US Department of Education's Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and College Scorecard; the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Quarterly Census of Employment & Wages; and the Bureau of Economic Analysis' Regional Economic Accounts. The incumbent communicates results through memoranda, presentations, data visualizations, and white papers.
When done well, this work advances ASU's charter of inclusivity and excellence at scale. To do it well, we must understand not only the charter and ASU's mission, goals, and design aspirations, but also the decisions enterprise leaders must make.
This position is ideal for applicants looking to start or accelerate a career in higher education leadership, strategy, finance, or policy. Applicants with academic backgrounds or work experience in finance, public management, public policy, higher education administration, accounting, law, or business analytics are encouraged to apply. We believe candidates with a graduate degree are best prepared to succeed in this position but will review applications by exceptional candidates with other academic backgrounds.
