Job Summary:

The Injection Mold Repair Technician is responsible for repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting injection molds used in the production process. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and precision to ensure molds are in optimal condition, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. The technician will work closely with production teams and mold designers to identify and address mold issues promptly.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and execute repairs and engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Perform preventative maintenance on molds as required.
  • Respond promptly to emergency actions from the Molding department.
  • Inspect tools obtained from external sources upon arrival.
  • Conduct molding spotting and flash repair.
  • Fill out appropriate documents for repair tracking and work order comments.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues with injection molds, identifying the root causes of problems.
  • Perform repairs, adjustments, and preventive maintenance on injection molds, including cleaning, polishing, and replacing worn or damaged components.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble molds, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
  • Modify molds as required, following engineering instructions and specifications.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team and production staff to address mold-related issues and ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of mold repair activities, including work performed, parts used, and repairs made.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist in the installation, setup, and testing of new molds and equipment.
  • Provide guidance and training to production team on mold care, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, advancements, and best practices related to injection mold repair.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of mold components and operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in using various hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments commonly used in mold repair and maintenance.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes or hoists to safely handle heavy mold components during repair and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications related to injection molds.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities to identify root causes of mold issues and determine effective repair solutions.
  • Keen attention to detail when inspecting molds, diagnosing problems, and performing repairs to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and practices in a manufacturing environment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety guidelines.

Education and Experience:

  • Preferred but not required: Associate's degree (A.A.), Journeyman Card, or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, with 6 months to 1 year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes or hoists for lifting heavy mold components.
  • Previous experience in injection mold repair, maintenance, or a related field, demonstrating knowledge of mold troubleshooting, disassembly, cleaning, repair, and reassembly.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking during an 8 hours shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk and talk or hear.
