Title: Infrastructure Solutions Architect - Networking
Expertise: Azure Networking
Type: Full-time, Contract (1-year duration)
Location: Richmond, Virginia (Hybrid - 3 days in office)
Reports to: IT Portfolio Manager Networking and Audiovisuals
Department: IT / Infrastructure AV and Networking
Primary Objective:
The role is to design, implement, and manage network infrastructure for both on-premises and cloud environments, with a special focus on Microsoft Azure. The candidate will ensure the network is scalable, secure, and highly available, contributing to cloud migration strategies and network performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Architecture & Design:
- Design and maintain enterprise network systems, especially Azure-related services (e.g., Virtual Networks, Firewalls, ExpressRoute).
- Cloud Integration:
- Work with cloud teams to integrate on-premise networks with Azure environments ensuring security and smooth connectivity.
- Azure Networking:
- Manage and optimize Azure networking services like VNet peering, traffic management, load balancing, etc.
- Network Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and resolve network issues in both cloud and on-premises environments to ensure uptime.
- Network Security:
- Implement best practices for securing networks in hybrid cloud environments (Azure + on-premises).
- Automation & Monitoring:
- Automate network configuration and monitoring using tools like Azure Network Watcher and PowerShell.
- Performance Optimization:
- Continuously monitor and enhance network performance in both cloud and on-prem environments.
- Documentation:
- Keep thorough and updated documentation of network systems, configurations, and troubleshooting methods.
- Mentorship:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, encouraging improvement in operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience:
- 5+ years in network engineering.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in Azure networking services.
- Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications:
- Azure Network Engineer Associate or similar certifications are highly preferred.
- Cisco certifications like CCNA/CCNP are also desirable.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of Azure networking (VNet, Load Balancers, ExpressRoute, etc.).
- Experience in traditional networking (firewalls, routers, VPNs) with tools like Cisco, Juniper, or Palo Alto.
- Security:
- Familiarity with network security tools and concepts like IDS/IPS, VPNs, firewalls.
- Automation:
- Experience with automation using PowerShell, Terraform, or scripting tools.
- Monitoring Tools:
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools like Azure Network Watcher, SolarWinds, Wireshark, etc.
- Soft Skills:
- Analytical thinking, troubleshooting, attention to detail, and team collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Hybrid Cloud Experience:
- Experience with integrating Azure with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or other cloud providers.
- Kubernetes Networking:
- Understanding of Kubernetes networking and containerized environments.
- SD-WAN Technologies:
- Experience with SD-WAN solutions.
