As a IT Cybersecurity SPECIALIST (INFOSEC/PLCYPLN), GS-2210-13, your typical work assignments may include the following:
  • Manages and assesses the effectiveness of the Data Security Authorization program within all OD/WHIT programs
  • Conducts regular audits of data access and authorization controls, and prepares reports for management
  • Establishes and monitors performance measures and life cycle management processes
  • Reviews business cases and information systems projects for Data Security implications
  • Develops and executes special project plans to address data authorization issues
  • Assesses the impact of security requirements upon systems cost, efficiency, and user effectiveness throughout the systems' lifecycle
  • Ensures data security protections are in place for EOP programs, systems, and information involved
  • Provides Data Security program assessment guidance and support to all levels of management
  • Stays up-to-date with relevant technological advancements and makes recommendations for the adaption of new data security technologies
  • Conducts investigations, analysis, inquiries, and assistance visits to identify security problems or concerns, and the associated solutions to correct the identified problems or concerns
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of data security authorization efforts with overall EOP goals and objectives
  • Develops and updates data security authorization policies and procedures based on industry standards and regulations, to include developing EOP guidance, as required

Qualifications

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria listed below in order to meet the basic requirement for IT Cybersecurity SPECIALIST (INFOSEC/PLCYPLN), 2210.

  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

    You may qualify at the GS- 13 level, if you meet the following minimum qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector that demonstrates 1 - Processing complex, technical issues and communicate them into meaningful business and risk guidance and recommendation, 2 - Working knowledge of widely recognized cybersecurity risk frameworks (i.e., NIST, ISO, etc.) and how to apply them within enterprise organizations, 3 - Constructing complex security reports to provide real-time insights to senior management regarding program initiatives, and 4 - Presenting high-level detailed briefs using graphs, tables, dashboard views, and supporting textual content.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
