About the Role: As a Senior Software Engineer a growing healthcare company, you will play a pivotal role in servicing business operations and driving growth while serving as a technical lead for our engineering team. You'll join a dynamic group dedicated to improving the lives of patients with serious illnesses.

In this role, you'll take ownership of high-impact technical projects, overseeing the design, development, and implementation of key systems within our technology stack. With your extensive software development experience, you'll establish the technical direction for complex engineering projects and manage the delivery of multiple initiatives simultaneously. You will proactively identify and address technical debt in our existing architecture, implementing best practices in engineering and system design.

You will report directly to the Director of Technology, who brings years of experience in delivering software and managing engineering teams in high-growth environments. This position empowers you to drive critical engineering initiatives while enhancing the capabilities of your fellow engineers.

Why You Belong Here: You thrive on autonomy and enjoy owning complex technical projects from initial design to final implementation. As a curious problem solver and strong communicator, you're driven to create proof of concepts that guide solutions before scaling. This role offers you the opportunity to exercise creative ownership, collaborate with talented engineers, enhance your expertise in value-based care, and contribute significantly to our operational and business growth.

We value relationships built on trust and meaningful experiences that foster your growth. Here, we prioritize autonomy, flexibility, and ownership while maintaining a focus on real-life connections and respectful, supportive, growth-oriented teamwork.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing technical expertise for the design, development, and testing of impactful product improvements on our technology roadmap.
  • Become an internal expert on our Web Application architecture, which includes a Vue.js front end, a Python Django Web API, and various GCP cloud infrastructures (Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, Cloud Storage, and BigQuery).
  • Proactively identify technical debt and lead initiatives to improve it with best practices in software development and system design.
  • Anticipate risks and roadblocks, developing mitigation strategies to ensure the successful execution of the technology roadmap.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance engineering efficiency, reduce costs, and improve architecture quality.
  • Maintain strong working relationships within the engineering team and with cross-functional teams.
  • Establish and reinforce best practices for scoping, designing, and executing technical projects.

What You Will Bring:

  • 7+ years of experience in software development, with a strong preference for back-end development in the healthcare industry.
  • Extensive expertise in designing, building, and testing scalable back-end web APIs.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python, with a solid background in Django and Django Rest Framework (DRF).
  • Knowledge of fundamental DevOps skills, including CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and container orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes).
  • Strong understanding of relational database design, indexing, and optimization, preferably with PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing complex state management systems, including state machines and rules engines.
  • Proven track record of scoping, developing, and testing complex software projects for diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to efficiently create proof of concept proposals to identify right-sized solutions before scaling.
  • Strategic thinker with a strong sense of accountability to deliver results.
  • Passionate about leading code reviews and ensuring high-quality standards for code maintainability.
  • Excellent communication skills and a respectful approach towards colleagues, thriving in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Experience working in ambiguous, high-growth environments.
