Position Summary

The successful candidate will have experience working with a variety of techniques and be capable of working with stakeholders and instrument operators to provide accurate and timely results, while guiding and supporting analytical method development. As a key member of both our chromatography department and our multi-disciplinary problem-solving team, the successful candidate will also be expected to analyze complex Mass Spectrometry data from all types of chromatographic techniques, including liquid and gas chromatography. Experience with Agilent equipment is a benefit and direct experience with LC-QTOF (or other forms of tandem MS or MSn detection) is an advantage.

The candidate should be deeply familiar with analytical and quality best practices to ensure the highest level of confidence in reported results. The candidate should have a strong understanding of the selection and use of system suitability standards, continuing calibration checks, positive/negative controls, spike recovery standards, surrogate standards, internal standards, replicate preparations, and trending/control charts.

Primary tasks include:

Under the supervision of the Director of chromatography, manage day-to-day operations of a team working on a diverse suite of chromatography instruments and multiple, distinct projects to ensure clear information transfer and timely project completion

Plan, coordinate, and lead validation of chromatography methods

Provide input on improvement of existing chromatography methods and protocols, and on the development of new chromatography methods and protocols

Offer guidance to other staff members with regards to issues that arise with chromatography instrumentation and/or analysis

Application of mass spectrometry and chromatography expertise in quantitation and structure elucidation of unknown compounds is a strong benefit

Write qualification documents (to ICH or USP criteria) and SOPs and train staff to newly developed methods

Documentation, data/method/library organization, report generation, and clear communication of results

Although the primary responsibility of this role is not day-to-day instrument operation, familiarity, and willingness to operate the instruments is a benefit. Experience in analytical chemistry development and a willingness to aid in developing wet chemistry techniques in support of chromatography is a bonus.

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate should hold at least a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent work experience. 2-5 years (depending on degree level) of experience in one of the following areas is preferred:

o Contract R&D or CRO/CDMO lab

o Extractable & leachable (E&L) or chemical characterization lab

o Polymer analysis lab

o Failure analysis or forensic lab

o Environmental lab

o Manufacturing QC lab

o Academic analytical lab with substantial throughput

o Pharma or startup analytical lab

The candidate should be comfortable working in a small, adaptable research company focused on non-routine, high-quality and rapid projects. It is expected that the ideal candidate be excited to provide experience-based support in this multi-disciplinary company outside of the primary role described above. The candidate should also be capable of working to timelines and strict protocols in support of medical device and pharmaceutical regulatory environment.
