Scientific Affairs Manager - West Coast
The role of the Scientific Affairs Manager focuses on Outreach, Training, Research, and Support. The primary responsibilities include discussing Kuros medical devices and drug/biologic technologies with clinicians, distributors, and Kuros team members through one-to-one meetings, targeted outreach events, and conferences.
Additionally, the role involves training clinicians, distributors, and team members on the scientific aspects of Kuros products. Collaboration with the clinical team is essential for tasks such as developing whitepapers, collecting data, preparing publications and manuscripts, submitting abstracts, and delivering podium presentations. The role also supports various teams, including sales, marketing, development, quality, and regulatory, by providing medical expertise.
The Scientific Affairs Manager will be based on the West Coast and will oversee some out-of-United States (OUS) Medical Affairs programs, including those in Australia, New Zealand, APAC, Brazil, the Middle East, and any other regions that may be assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:
- PhD in a life sciences field, preferably in an orthopaedic-related field, or an MD/DO with a specialty in surgery, preferably in orthopaedics.
- Possesses medical and/or clinical experience.
- Minimum 3 years medical device industry experience.
- The highest ethical standards, specifically surrounding protected medical information and clinical research.
- Working knowledge of relevant clinical regulations and industry standards including Good Clinical Research Practice and MedTech EU Code of Practice.
- Working knowledge of the Guidelines of the Medical Science Liaison Society.
Additional Experience and/or Qualifications:
- Therapeutic expertise in the field of orthopaedics, neurological surgery, osteoimmunology, or bone grafting.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with proven capability for presenting scientific theory and data to scientific and/or clinical audiences.
- Teamwork skills and an ability to work effectively in a cross-functional setting with a variety of colleagues.
- Networking skills and the confidence to interact with senior experts on a peer-to-peer level.
- Critical data analysis skills.
- An ability to keep up to date with scientific literature.
- Skillful at scientific writing.
- A high level of emotional intelligence to work effectively with stakeholders.
- Commercial acumen.
- The ability to understand, process, communicate, and present scientific information to a high standard.
- External customer focus with strong networking capabilities and integration with KOLs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt priorities according to business and strategic needs
Job Specific Duties
- Identify leading influential experts (KOLs) in the fields of medicine or research and build peer-to-peer relationships with KOLs.
- Design and present scientific educational meetings for doctors, researchers, and commercial teams in the form of Journal Clubs, and one-on-one presentations (Meet the Experts).
- Respond to scientific enquiries from internal and external colleagues.
- Create training modules and quizzes which will be used to educate internal and external partners on orthopaedic disease states, anatomy, and therapies through training platforms.
- Stay informed on the latest scientific research and clinical data relevant to Kuros Biosciences.
- Disseminate scientific research through abstracts, posters, case studies, case series, white papers, and clinical peer reviewed research.
- Provide scientific support to sales, marketing, quality and regulatory, development teams and their programmers.
- Must be able to travel 40% or more as needed.
