Job Responsibilities

  • Technology Commercialization Management- The comprehensive management of all CCHMC-generated intellectual property and technologies within the Portfolio area of the Department, including disclosure identification and evaluation, patent strategy and assistance with prosecution, licensing and commercialization. Comprehensive management of CCHMC technologies within the Portfolio area of the Department including proactive interaction with investigators in assigned, embedded divisions to identify new technologies, evaluation of disclosed technologies for patenting and commercialization potential, valuation of select technologies, developing and implementing marketing and patenting plans for inventions, drafting and negotiating term sheets, options, licenses and other agreements, including confidentiality and materials transfer agreements, and management of active licenses.
  • Project Leadership- Provide leadership for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects within the Portfolio area of the Department ensuring consistency with organizational strategy, commitments and goals. Define project scope, goals, deliverables and resource requirements. Define and manage the project budget. Develop project plans resource allocation, and timeline. Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope. Direct assigned project team ensuring effective utilization of resources. Monitor project deliverables and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders.
  • Performance Management- Direct the development and monitoring of an effective staffing and retention strategy, including hiring and terminating employees, workforce planning, succession planning; attracting and retaining top performers, partnering with leadership and Human Resources to develop effective and appropriate recruitment packages, and effective on-boarding programs for staff; effective performance management of direct reports; in partnership with leadership, provide mentoring and development to faculty and other leaders in effective performance management; mentor and provide learning and development opportunities for direct reports and others in business roles; effectively and appropriately leveraging human resources business partners to meet the division's talent management goals; ultimate responsibility for supporting organizational programs/plans that impact employees and ensuring communication, comprehension, and adherence to all Human Resources policies and related legal and/or compliance requirements.
  • Business Development Management- Direct, establish and monitor business processes to ensure effective and efficient operations. Build knowledge of and relationships with appropriate stakeholders and industries for effective partnering- industry feedback, research collaborations, licensing, etc. Develop and manage synergistic partnerships and collaborations with stakeholders to advance portfolio projects. Oversee and lead the strategic planning of comprehensive marketing and communications efforts to ensure institution and center are positioned as leading institutions. Liaise and partner with CCHMC Marketing, Internal Communications, and Business Development as needed.

Job Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor or Masters or higher degree in related field
  • 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
