Job Description
Title: Payroll Manager
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Department: People and Culture
Reports to: People and Culture Director
Salary: $90,000-112,500 + bonus
Date: 10/2024
Job Summary:
The Payroll Manager will be responsible for all aspects of payroll processing. This individual will ensure that employees are paid accurately and on time, while maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and company policies. Extensive experience in payroll systems, tax laws, and reporting as well as a strong attention to detail and a commitment to confidentiality.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing
Manage end-to-end payroll processes for both exempt and nonexempt employees, including data entry, timesheet validation, and pay calculations.
Compliance
Ensure payroll practices comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax withholdings, garnishments, and reporting requirements.
Tax Filing
Oversee the accurate calculation, filing and reporting of payroll taxes (federal, state, and local). Ensure timely submission of quarterly and annual tax filings.
System Maintenance
Maintain and update payroll systems to reflect accurate employee data, including salary changes, benefit deductions, and other payroll related adjustments.
Employee Support
Respond to payroll-related inquiries and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to payroll, tax deductions, or direct deposit.
Reporting
Generate and submit payroll reports for internal stakeholders, such as finance and HR teams, providing insights into labor costs, taxes, and other payroll metrics.
Year-End Activities
Manage year-end processes, including preparation of W-2 forms, reviewing payroll data for accuracy, and ensuring compliance with year-end tax filings.

Required Skills/Abilities:
- In depth understanding of payroll experience, tax laws, and best practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Experience with payroll reporting and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with employees across all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite as well as payroll software systems
- 5-7 years of payroll experience, with strong knowledge of payroll systems (eg. ADP, Paycom, Workday, etc)
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus.
- Familiarity with multi-state payroll processing and tax laws.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
