The Position

A Postdoctoral fellow position is available for a highly motivated and independent candidate to join the laboratory of Dr. Irena Kadiu in Neuroimmunology/Neuroscience at Genentech. The neuroimmunology team focuses on early research and drug discovery to deliver transformative immunomodulatory therapies for neurodegenerative disease.

This project will focus on elucidating epigenetic, bioenergetic, and functional states of glial aging in the context of neurodegenerative disease.

The Opportunity:
  • You will be able to expand your skill set by learning through close interactions with top experts in the fields of genetics, functional genomics, and computational science.
  • You will expand your hands-on expertise in modeling human disease by utilizing iPSC-based complex models to address scientific questions with potential therapeutic implications.
  • As a member of the Department of Neuroscience, you will learn how to work in a matrix environment together with the members of the neuroimmunology team and other functions to drive your project forward.
  • You will be part of the Genentech postdoctoral training program that provides an outstanding professional growth environment and the opportunity to pursue novel/unexplored scientific hypotheses while gaining exposure to breakthrough therapeutic discoveries.
  • Publish high-impact research papers in the field of Neuroscience.


Who You Are:
  • A Ph.D. graduate in Neuroscience, Immunology or Molecular biology with at least one first author publication.
  • Scientifically curious, a quick learner, and proactive in the conception and implementation of new ideas.


Required:
  • Hands-on experience with next generation sequencing, epigenetic readouts, and computational/bioinformatics tools for single cell and spatial transcriptomic analyses.
  • Hands-on experience with lentiviral- or CRISPR-based genetic modification of human iPSC-derived glial cells (microglia/astrocytes).
  • A background researching the underlying pathobiological drivers of accelerated aging and knowledge of rodent disease models would be a plus.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco California is $92,500 to $98,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
