Scope

As the Data Engineering Manager, you will manage a team of data engineers to design and construct a modern data platform. Your passion for data and expertise in managing and building data pipelines will be invaluable as you collaborate with business stakeholders and data analysts to enhance data accessibility and utilization. You will work closely with the CTO, executives, engineering leaders, and other business stakeholders to develop and implement a high-priority data architecture and strategy that drives business growth. Modernizing legacy systems, pipelines, databases, and processes will be within your purview, as you build a new technology foundation to provide data-driven insights that fuel business expansion. We seek an individual with a broad range of abilities, capable of architecting the system, managing a roadmap, and exhibit leadership qualities to manage our data team and Data Engineering & Analytics partners (onshore and offshore). We are building in an Azure-based platform, so prior experience with Azure Synapse, Data Factory, and related tooling is a requirement.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a data architecture and strategy that aligns with the company's overall vision and goals.
  • Modernize legacy data platform and reporting to enhance the speed and accuracy of data collection, storage, and analysis.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage a backlog of requests and product roadmap.
  • Effectively balance day to day short term needs with long term solutions.
  • Be very hands on to build data pipelines and ingest, cleanse, and transform our raw data into a clean, insurance data model that can drive our reporting, analysis, and insights.
  • Manage and grow a team of data engineers (onshore and offshore) to ensure the successful delivery of data-driven insights.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and prioritize data needs, and design and deliver solutions to meet those needs.
  • Work closely with hands-on investors to provide data-driven insights that help inform business decisions.
  • Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, security, and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the business and the data that drives it, and use that knowledge to continually improve data-related processes and practices.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in the data field and apply them as appropriate to improve data-related operations and capabilities.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or data analysis, with 3+ years of leadership or management experience and ability to manage a remote team of FTE and contractors (onshore and offshore).


Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of modern, cloud-enabled data management, warehousing, pipelines, orchestration, ETL/ELT technologies and processes, and data analytics technologies.
  • Experience with modernizing legacy data solution and processes and creating a foundational data platform and architecture to expand access to business analytics and other data solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of data engineers, data analysts, as well as outsourced data partners.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, adept at engaging with stakeholders across all organizational tiers. Proficient in articulating and documenting the significance and strategy behind tasks, architectures, and decisions.
  • Experience with Azure s data tooling, including Synapse, Data Factory, etc.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex data-related issues.
  • Experience working with investors and business stakeholders to deliver data-driven insights that inform business decisions.
  • Prior experience in insurance and insurance technology strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in startups or high-growth companies strongly preferred.
