Software Engineer II - The Mixed Reality Group

As a Software Engineer II on the Mixed Reality Team, you will work on the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS). The United States Army has contracted Microsoft to prototype hardware, software, and cloud solutions for IVAS. The program leverages technology from HoloLens to design a heads-up display that pushes the boundaries of mixed reality devices . You will be responsible for developing software and services to support the diverse engineering systems ensuring this product's successful delivery.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of experience delivering commercial-quality software products for internal or external customers, consumers or enterprises

Other Requirements

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, U.S. permanent residency, or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate's citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience delivering commercial-quality software products for internal or external customers, consumers or enterprises
  • Demonstrated industry experience with build ing distributed cloud based systems.
  • Demonstrated industry experience with DevSecOps (Azure Devops or similar) .
  • Demonstrated industry experience as Full stack developer.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
  • Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
  • Adhere to modern DevOps engineering practices, effective coding, writing unit test cases, debugging, code reviewing and creating CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) pipelines.
