Department Summary

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) in the School of Dentistry, the incumbent will join a Neuropharmacology laboratory that carries out research that focuses on three major areas: 1) Development of non-addictive analgesics for oral cancer pain, 2) Neuroskeletal interactions in craniofacial bone development, maintenance, and regeneration, 3) Development of a rodent preclinical model to advance our understanding of the molecular and cellular changes associated with alcohol exposure and test the feasibility of biomarker development for early detection of alcohol-induced neuropathology. The incumbent will be working primarily on a drug development project which involves a milestone-driven progression plan of SAR-informed scaffold-based synthesis, in vitro/in vivo screening, and IND enabling studies for the development of an optimized peripherally-restricted cannabinoid analgesics for treatment of oral cancer pain. Duties will involve assisting the PI and senior researchers in performing a variety of experiments, including maintaining various cell lines, performing high-throughput cAMP measurements, assist in the conduct of several other in vitro cell line experiments, and conduct immunohistochemistry experiments on collected tissues. Incumbent will also help in providing general lab support, such as making common solutions.
