Position Overview
Our client, a leading private equity firm, is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations for 2-4 portfolio companies. This position is based out of the firm’s centralized shared services center in either Cleveland, OH or Memphis, TN. The Controller will work closely with the operating partner CFO and other senior leadership. This role offers significant growth potential, with opportunities to advance into a senior operating partner or CFO role as the firm continues to expand and acquire new investments.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the accounting and financial reporting functions for 2-4 portfolio companies.
- Oversee month-end close processes, including financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
- Collaborate with portfolio company leadership to provide financial guidance and drive operational improvements.
- Prepare and review budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis to support business decision-making.
- Manage external audits and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls and financial systems.
- Provide strategic support to the private equity firm’s operating partners on growth initiatives, M&A activity, and financial planning.
- Mentor and develop accounting staff across the portfolio companies.
- Travel to portfolio company locations as needed, with an expectation to be in-office when not traveling.
- CPA required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience, with a strong background in public accounting.
- Proven track record in leading accounting and finance functions within a company or division.
- Extensive experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, private equity-backed environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Must reside in Cleveland, OH or Memphis, TN and be willing to work in the office when not traveling to client sites.
