Summary:

Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Fiber Manager to oversee and manage the fiber optic operations at our cutting-edge data center in Memphis, TN. As the Data Center Fiber Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of fiber optic management, including operations across various levels (SU/T1, T1/T2, and T2/T3), as well as preparation, labeling, and other critical fiber-related tasks. You will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the data center's fiber infrastructure, directly contributing to the overall performance and uptime of the facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • SU/T1 Level Fiber Operations: Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of SU/T1 level fiber infrastructure. Ensure that all connections are properly maintained, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and implement necessary upgrades or repairs to maintain optimal performance.
  • T1/T2 Level Fiber Operations: Lead the team responsible for managing T1/T2 level fiber operations, ensuring that all fiber optic connections are installed, maintained, and monitored according to industry best practices. Ensure that the data center's fiber network is scalable and resilient.
  • T2/T3 Level Fiber Operations: Oversee the T2/T3 level fiber infrastructure, ensuring that all operations are conducted with precision and in compliance with safety standards. Manage the integration of new fiber lines and ensure that they are correctly configured and tested before going live.
  • Fiber Preparation and Labeling: Ensure that all fiber optic cables are properly prepared, labeled, and organized. This includes overseeing the accurate documentation of all fiber connections, ensuring that they are easy to trace and troubleshoot in the event of an issue.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and monitor quality control processes to ensure that all fiber operations meet the highest standards of reliability and performance. Conduct regular inspections and tests to identify and address potential issues before they impact data center operations.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Provide leadership and guidance to the fiber operations team, ensuring that all team members are well-trained and equipped to perform their duties. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and excellence within the team.
  • Collaboration with Project Management: Work closely with the Data Center Project Manager to align fiber operations with overall project goals and timelines. Provide regular updates on the status of fiber operations and contribute to strategic planning for future infrastructure needs.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams (preferably data center cabling technicians)
  • 6+ years of direct data center experience installing and routing optical fiber in large scale Tier 3 or 4 facilities
  • Experience installing, certifying, and troubleshooting fiber in hyperscale data center environments
  • Experience installing structured cabling
  • Highly proficient using a light meter, OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), OPMs (optical power meter), fiber certifier, loopback, and optical probes
  • Able to understand different types of switches and port identifications
  • Able to properly clean fiber and validate cleanliness
  • Proven experience in fiber optic management, preferably within a data center or large-scale infrastructure environment.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic technologies and industry best practices, including SU/T1, T1/T2, and T2/T3 level operations.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex fiber optic issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in the areas of documentation and labeling.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
