SAIC's National Security and Space (NSS) Sector is currently hiring to advance space capabilities supporting our Department of Defense (DOD) and Intelligence Community customers. Ten miles from the SAIC headquarters, our Chantilly, VA team supports systems development, targeting & intelligence analysis, systems engineering & integration and more.

This position is for a Satellite Engineer for a large, multi-year contract supporting a cutting-edge and innovative space program. The Satellite Engineer oversees developer satellite system development and provides support to the customer's execution of the Program with responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to the following:

Role Responsibilities:

Oversee prime contractors development and ensure systems meet customer requirements, risk tolerance, budget, and schedule, while assessing technical solutions and recommending Courses of Action (COA).

Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including hardware and software, to ensure system integration and mission success. Foster communication and alignment among team members to identify challenges and corresponding solutions.

Evaluate prime contractor performance at milestone reviews by analyzing compliance with technical requirements, and quality of deliverables. Offer recommendations to improve project outcomes and likelihood of success.

Identify and manage risks throughout the systems engineering lifecycle by conducting risk assessments, developing mitigation strategies, and monitoring potential impacts on mission objectives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.

Bachelors and 14 years of relevant experience; OR Masters and 12 years of relevant experience.

Mechanical and Thermal engineering experience, including a subset of the below:

o Mechanical Engineer:

Experience in mechanical engineering aspects of structural design for spacecraft and aircraft

Able to assess stress and loads in structural elements arising from dynamic operating conditions

Familiar with random vibration and shock analyses to assess structural element design margins and factors of safety

Experience in static and dynamics load testing

Experience with finite element analysis techniques for assessing structure integrity and structure vibration dynamics

Knowledgeable in material properties for metals and composites

Knowledgeable in electro-mechanical actuators employing gears, ball screws, and bearings

o Thermal Engineer:

Experience in spacecraft thermal design and analysis

Able to assess convective and radiative thermal transmission

Knowledgeable in solar radiation thermal effects, thermal radiation into space

Able to assess stress effects in mechanical elements due to varying thermal conditions

Knowledgeable in heat pipe cooling systems, and forced liquid cooling systems

Experience in finite element modeling and analysis for assessing thermal transient and steady state behavior

Able to assess thermal margins and factors of safety

Knowledgeable in thermal properties of materials

Experience in thermal-vacuum testing of spacecraft assemblies and components

Effective interpersonal skills (across multiple groups, offices, and organizations) and strong briefing and writing skills.

Ability to communicate to a diverse audience of decision makers with varying levels of programmatic and technical expertise.

Effective communication, coordination, and customer engagement skills.

Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and team environment with no supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

Aerospace engineer with expertise in both mechanical and thermal engineering for satellite programs. Emphasis is mostly on mechanical engineering.

At least 6 years experience working on a Government or Commercial satellite program as a lead system engineer or subject matter expert.
