Tesla Low Voltage Electronics team is looking for an experienced mechanical engineering leader to lead mechanical engineering/product design and thermal teams for all electronics modules along with multi-disciplinary engineering teams for camera and display hardware. The role requires both strong technical and people skills and a track record to back both up. You should be comfortable diving deep to debug issues in the lab or field, steering major product architecture reviews, and scoping team goals and expectations. You'll be responsible for both technical innovation and engineering process improvement along with quality.

The Low Voltage Electronics team is a fast-moving innovative team responsible for design and packaging of autopilot system, infotainment system, all low voltage controllers and other electronics such as accessories, sensors etc. across all Tesla vehicles and humanoid robot. You will own all aspects of design, performance, reliability, and high-volume manufacturing of these products. You will play a pivotal role in cutting edge electronics development.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor a team of engineers and other engineering managers by building a positive team culture and maintaining strong relationships with partners
  • Own the system level design and development timelines of electronics components (architecture, detailed design, validation, launch and high-volume production)
  • Effectively influence and collaborate with key partners in firmware, integration, manufacturing, test, supply chain etc.
  • Drive engineering process improvements within the team along with providing individual technical contributions in your area of expertise where needed
  • Lead architecture and design reviews of mechanical systems and components. Review detailed mechanical design analysis including thermal, structural, reliability, design for assembly and manufacturing.
  • Generate and maintain product and component design requirements
  • Drive prioritization and goals for the team and nurture their career growth
  • Stay on top of current industry trends to keep Tesla at the forefront of electronics and technology innovation

Requirements
  • 8+ years of mechanical product design experience. A track record of taking multiple products to market.
  • 5+ years of management experience or experience in a technical leadership role
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of thermal and mechanical design fundamentals
  • Experience with electronics module development (camera, display, audio, antenna, computer, sensors etc.)
  • Experience designing for high-volume assembly and manufacturing & a variety of manufacturing techniques (injection molding, stamping, casting, etc.)
  • A skilled communicator who can communicate status and priorities up and down the management chain
  • Knowledge of thermal system design and experience driving thermal system optimization, preferred
  • Knowledge of GD&T, finite element analysis, and design for manufacturing and reliability concepts, preferred
  • Experience with reliability, safety, and industry standard requirements for automotive electronics products, preferred

      $120,000 - $276,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
