Job Summary

The Associate Director (AD) will report to the Director of CAMLab and will serve as chief administrator of CAMLab projects/programs and their creative direction. The position will be responsible for the day-to-day management of CAMLab project/program development, leadership, and organization. Working closely with the CAMLab Director, the person in this position will develop & manage CAMLab programing, communications, research & outreach, curation, team supervision and will consult with our financial administrator on operational & financial matters.

Position Description

Overall CAMLab Projects Management and Development:

  • The Associate Director will be responsible for the successful delivery of CAMLab projects. They will be able to manage diverse business relationships and lead across multidisciplinary areas.
  • Able to own multiple large-scale projects simultaneously with support from team, overseeing from conception through completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Will conceptualize and develop creative ideas and visual styles ensuring they align with CAMLab project objectives and brand consistency.
  • The AD will work closely with a creative team, including researchers, designers, marketers, writers, vendors and trusted third parties to develop cohesive and impactful creative solutions.
  • The Associate Director works will define goals, identify metrics for success, and develop best processes to ensure CAMLab projects completion.
  • AD will set milestones, and timelines to create and write project/program plans that ensure objectives and expectations are met and takes appropriate action to overcome obstacles where necessary.
  • Will review and integrate feedback from stakeholders to enhance creative outputs.


Team Management & Mentorship:

  • Will manage and coordinate project and program resources (such as designers, writers/editors, print production, digital and multimedia producers, freelancers, etc.) ensuring resources are allocated according to project needs.
  • Ability to motivate and direct the team in the design and production of best-in-class solutions across different platforms.
  • Will evaluate creative team performance and guide improvements.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to team members, helping to elevate their skills and foster a collaborative environment.


Oversight of Programming:

  • Will oversee and lead the development of CAMLab's multiplatform programing, communications, research & outreach, and project curation.
  • Will work with the Assistant Curator to develop and ensure CAMLab programming efforts are moving forward, providing clear direction, resources and support to achieve objectives. As well as to ensure a strong organizational mission and culture.


Communication:

  • The Associate Director will maintain regular and robust communication with the CAMLab Director, HAA Director of Administration and Operations, and other appropriate audiences regarding project status.
  • As needed, the Associate Director will cultivate interest among potential donors and collaborators in China and partner with FAS administration and University Development Offices to identify and pursue prospects with interest in supporting the CAM Lab.
  • Will work with CAMLab's Director, the HAA Director of Administration and Operations, and program financial manager to develop project and program budgets.


Other responsibilities:

-Maintain oversight over CAMLab project installation and de-installation.

-Other responsibilities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

Graduate degree, plus 5+ years of progressive management experience in an art, academic or media-based technology related institution.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Chinese Art History, Architectural History research and Buddhist Art.
  • Will require strong expertise in Visual design and Media production, especially with regards to creative audio & visual skills.
  • Superb bilingual skills, spoken and written fluency in English and Chinese.
  • Significant professional experience in global collaboration and a proven record of success in program development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to deliver communications that inform their intended audiences.
  • Ability to network with Chinese institutions, scholars, and donors.
  • Excellent and demonstrated strategic planning and program development skills.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and team building aptitude.
  • Ability to work productively with Harvard faculty, students and interns.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing budgets.
  • Experience and confidence to set expectations with partners and peers.

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
