Job Description

Reports to the Executive Director of External Capabilities, Small Molecule Process R&D, our Research & Development Division . Manages a team of our company's scientists who are responsible for the work of teams of scientists at our external partners. The role is accountable for clinical API deliveries in support of our company's small molecule pipeline. Works closely with our company's project teams and external partners to support API commercialization. Manages the budget and logistics support of SMPRD external operations. The incumbent will be responsible for the recruiting, appraisal, and development of personnel under their supervision. The Director selects, trains, and effectively recommends transfers, merit increases, promotions, and closures of personnel under their direction within the framework of Company policy.

Collaborates effectively with Process Chemistry, Discovery Process Chemistry, Enabling Technologies, Chemical Engineering R&D, Analytical R&D, Quality, and other of our company's partner groups to provide strategic direction and innovative solutions to synthetic chemistry and development problems to ensure successful API deliveries to meet program timelines.

Must have deep subject matter expertise in synthetic chemistry and broad experience in general drug development. As a leader in SM PR&D, the incumbent is expected to build a broad network internally, influence a broad portfolio of programs both technically and strategically, and mentor young scientists within SM PR&D.

Builds and maintains a strong working relationship with both the management and scientists at our strategic external partners. Promotes a culture of scientific excellence, trust, collaboration, quality, safety and compliance that extends beyond our company's team and into partner organizations. Refined communication, negotiation, influencing and relationship management skills are essential for establishing partnerships in diverse geographies and cultures.

Qualifications

Minimum education required:
  • Ph.D. in Synthetic Chemistry


Required experience and skills:
  • 8+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience in synthetic chemistry and demonstrated ability in leading and inspiring dynamic teams.
  • Must have a strong track record of delivering results via innovation and fearless problem solving.
  • Must demonstrate passion and ability to develop and grow talent.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiating, influencing and collaboration skills.
  • Must be recognized in the pharmaceutical industry, through publications/presentations, for subject matter expertise.
  • Travel: Yes, 25% of the Time

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Expected US salary range:
$164,800.00 - $259,400.00
