We are seeking a Sr. Battery Application Engineer to join our fuel cell electric heavy duty truck team at our Global Innovation Center in Bolingbrook, IL. The Sr. Battery Application Engineer will work with the truck engineering team to define battery specifications, test validations, to ensure product performance, robustness, and safety. The Sr. Battery Application Engineer is expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the heavy duty truck build team by providing battery solutions on applications and technical concerns
Act as a Subject Matter Expert on battery products and the related applications
Identify lithium-ion battery technologies including chemistry/cell/pack; working with the Truck Engineering Team in the development and / or enhancements of the specifications of Hyzon Battery Products to support truck build
Initiate pack tests, monitor and maintain test integrity
Provide technical expertise for developing the appropriate tests
Collect, organize, process, and analyze large quantities of cell and pack test data to evaluate performance.
Assist Engineering, Manufacturing and QC departments with testing; to ensure that products meet the truck build expectations, within the agreed deadlines.
Write application notes and technical solutions, as required.
Up to 20% domestic and international travel may be expected for this position



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
3+ years hands-on experience in application experience in batteries
Experience in pack design parameters and critical process parameters
Experience in battery pack tests for validation of performance, reliability, and safety, along with battery test conditions/requirements
Experience with automotive applications, including design, measurement and instrumentation, controls
Understanding of Hybrid Battery and Hybrid Vehicle operations
Ability to work non-standard hours to collaborate with suppliers in different time zones
Excellent teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills
High level understanding of hardware and software design and failure modes in electronic modules
Strong communication and organizational skills
Problem-solving skills involving complex systems
Proficient in MS Office



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
3+ years Project Management experience
Knowledge of hybrid/electric vehicle configurations and controls
Understanding of operation and power electronic controls of (BMS) Battery Monitoring System, DCDC, Charger and Motor Inverter
Knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (CAN(SAE J1939), LIN, Ethernet) and electrical architectures
Knowledge of mechatronics, microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming
Knowledge of automotive functional safety (ISO26262) standards
Experience using Catia V5/V6 or similar tools
Experience with electrical and EMC testing

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
