We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join a project working with the Department of Education based out of San Antonio, TX. This role will allow you to have a part in streamlining operation processes while working with AWS and Linux!



Job Description


Carries out moderately complex information systems and/or information technology tasks within more than one discipline, such as application support, database administration, software quality assurance/quality control, software engineering, network telecommunications, and infrastructure operations of administration, analysis, engineering and design.



  • Help us streamline our operations processes.

  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability.

  • Serves as the back up to respond to user requests for system needs and upgrades or handles request that are more complex.

  • Automate tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).



  • Document processes, procedures, and system configurations. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve practices.



  • To be current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve practices. Schedules, performs, and monitors system backups and, when necessary, performs data recoveries.

  • Performs root cause analysis, diagnostics, and monitoring on various production systems.

  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and works with team members to implement efficiencies.

  • Effectively creates and maintains relevant systems documentation and user guides.

  • Actively engaged in the planning and designing of new platforms and integrating new technologies into existing infrastructure. Evaluates new technologies and releases.

  • Creates and reviews technical systems recovery plans to reduce down time if a system outage were to occur.

  • Reviews the problem management register and identifies actions.



Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field or equivalent relevant experience.

  • 4-6 years of experience in information technology, systems administration or other IT related field.



Other Job Specific Skills



  • Strong understanding of Python frameworks and Ansible. Document processes, procedures, and system configurations.

  • Experience with the following tools:


1) AWS


2) Ansible


3) Linux


4) Python


5) Red Hat Openshift




  • Applies standard methodology, techniques, procedures and criteria.

  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and resolve more complex system hardware, software or networking related problems.

  • Ability to plan and coordinate the deployment of new technology and resolve technical problems individually and as a project participant.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to translate technical terminology into terms understandable to non-technical employees.

  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • Experience with the following will be a plus:


1) Splunk or similar tool


2) Dynatrace or similar tool


3) Atlassian Stack like Jira, confluence etc
