This is a full-time, permanent position within the Health Services Quality Assurance Division

Make a difference in patient safety . The Operations Manager (WMS 2) provides leadership by managing the Complaint Intake/Compliance, Case Management, and Administrative units as well as by supporting business continuity functions and office-wide operations. They also provide technical and professional expertise in the areas of budget, quality improvement, policy, performance management, public disclosure, and data reporting.

As a member of the Office of Investigative & Legal Services (OILS) management team, the Operations Manager is responsible for independent management and decision-making. This position interprets and implements existing Departmental policies throughout the units managed and makes recommendations for new policies, as warranted. This includes recommending legislative proposals for consideration by agency leadership.

As part of the OILS management team, the Operations Manager reports directly to the Deputy Director and has the delegated authority to supervise the operational support and administrative functions of the office. The leader in this position promotes effective, positive communication and collaboration across the office, division, and agency.

Location and Flexibility

Enjoy the flexibility of our hybrid work environment, where you can balance working from home and collaborating in the office. It is anticipated that you’ll be expected at the DOH facility located in Tumwater for work activities 1-2 days weekly.

The DESIRED Candidate Profile

Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.

Option 1: Six (6) or more years of experience in public health, health care administration, public administration, business administration, criminal justice, law, law enforcement, or in a related field, two years must have been managing professionals in these areas.

Option 2: Bachelor's degree with a focus or major study in public health, health care administration, public administration, business administration, criminal justice, law, law enforcement, or health-related field; AND two years of experience in public health, health care administration, public administration, business administration, criminal justice, law, law enforcement or in a related field, two of which must have been managing professionals in these areas.

AND For Either Option Outlined Above, The Following

  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and competency in managing resources and improving performance outcomes in a regulatory, public sector, public health, or clinical environment (hospital, nursing, or related profession or facility);
  • Familiarity with state laws, or federal regulations related to HSQA;
  • Ability to use computer word processing, input data into databases related to work activities, and effectively communicate, orally and in writing:
  • Experience working with highly sensitive, confidential, and high-security materials in a secure environment; and,
  • Technical expertise in an area of health professions regulation or discipline, including familiarity with state laws (the Uniform Disciplinary Act, RCW 18.130), regulations, and judicial decisions applicable to areas regulated by the division.
