Job Summary:


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to manage and maintain our PostgreSQL databases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust, scalable, and secure PostgreSQL environments. This role demands deep technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and a strong ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Design & Architecture: Design and implement PostgreSQL databases that are scalable, robust, and meet the business needs.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Identify, diagnose, and resolve database performance issues using techniques such as indexing, query optimization, and hardware resource tuning.
  • Backup & Recovery: Develop and manage database backup strategies, including point-in-time recovery, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Security Management: Implement and manage database security policies, ensuring compliance with data protection standards and regulations.
  • Monitoring & Maintenance: Implement monitoring tools to ensure database health, uptime, and performance. Proactively manage capacity planning and scaling.
  • Automation & Scripting: Automate repetitive tasks such as backups, monitoring, and database deployments using scripting languages like Bash, Python, or SQL.
  • Database Upgrades & Patch Management: Plan and execute PostgreSQL upgrades, migrations, and patching activities with minimal downtime.
  • Documentation & Best Practices: Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, procedures, and standards. Promote best practices within the team and across the organization.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development teams, providing guidance on SQL query optimization, schema design, and database integration.
  • Incident Management: Respond to and troubleshoot critical database issues, ensuring minimal impact on business operations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL Database Administrator.
  • Certifications: PostgreSQL certifications (preferred but not required).
  • Technical Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, configuration, and internals.
    • Proficiency in SQL query tuning, index management, and performance optimization.
    • Experience with high-availability solutions like replication, clustering, and failover techniques.
    • Hands-on experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
    • Familiarity with cloud-based PostgreSQL deployments (AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, etc.).
    • Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar).
    • Knowledge of database security best practices and regulatory compliance.
    • Experience with monitoring tools like pgAdmin, Nagios, Zabbix, or similar.
