Summary/Objective:

The Automation Engineer s responsibilities include improving existing robotics, vision, and mechanical systems, developing new product concepts and prototypes, designing, and testing mechanical and electronic systems, and developing and supporting various automated and Robotic systems.

To be successful as an Automation Engineer, you should be able to work within demanding timeframes and develop original, practical solutions to problems. Outstanding automation engineer will draw on a wide range of engineering principles and are not afraid to wander into unchartered territory, as well as ask for help from others.

Duties and Responsibilty:

1. Design, develop, and enhance industrial automation systems and machines, including upgrades, modifications and optimizations to existing PLC, HMI and robot programs.

2. Support automated systems and their control software to meet machine availability, performance and quality metrics, and provide consultation or training when required.

3. Troubleshoot problems with processes and hardware including pneumatics, electrical, PLC logic, vision cameras, and robots.

4. Identify weaknesses in automated production lines or finished products and recommend improvements for continous improvements.

5. Develop design documents, mechanical models, and tolerance analyses for mechanical parts and final products.

6. Plan preventive maintenance and maintain program backups for all automation equipment

7. Conduct research, feasibility studies, and cost analysis for new equipment, sensors and technologies, and documenting findings and presenting reports.

8. Oversee the work of contractors and maintain technical project files in line with project requirements.

9. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

1. BSc in Control Systems Engineering, Electical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar.

2. Knowledge of PLC and HMI controls (preferably Allen-Bradley).

3. Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics.

4. Basic understanding of robotics controller and motion profiles (preferably Fanuc Robotics).

5. Basic understanding of mechanical components and CAD software (Solidworks).

6. Experience of working in a Manufacturing or Automation environment.

7. A completed apprenticeship or additional courses would be advantageous.

8. Strong mathematical, analytical, and creative thinking skills.

9. Ability to work in a team or alone.

10. Self-starter with a passion for Engineering.
