Job Summary

The laboratory research assistant role will support noise and vibration test at the acoustics lab. This role will have a range of activities including, acoustics material testing, OEM specific test at the lab or in the field, maintaining of instrumentation and equipment, participating in lab accreditation as well as safety and quality system activities. Proficiency in testing/measurement, documentation, organization, and reporting of results within the ISO 17025 system is a critical part of this role.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety requirements and convey safe working practices to others.
  • Perform all acoustics material testing (SAE J1400, ASTM C423, ASTM E1050 and ASTM C522) as assigned in accordance with standard work procedures.
  • Work with acoustics lab manager to understand the test plan, to prepare the test setup and execute the test in the laboratory and on the field.
  • Gather, process, and analyze acoustics data using standard template and standard work procedures. Transfer data to laboratory spreadsheets, perform simple calculations such as average or standard deviation, make graphs in Office and upload data to Network drive or SharePoint site.
  • Consistently show attention to detail so that test results aren’t invalidated due to improper environmental conditions, sample preparation, etc. Ability to recognize if extraneous factors will invalidate test results. Ensures that standard work procedures are followed as written.
  • Maintain and organize the yearly calibration of instrumentation and equipment at the laboratory.
  • Work on several projects simultaneously. Work with acoustics lab manager to ensure that tests are properly scheduled and promptly communicates with lab manager or other personnel when there is a problem with testing.
  • Participate in expanding scope of the labs ISO 17025 accreditation and quality management systems (QMS).
  • Maintenance of laboratory and test equipment in safe and functional state.
  • Participation in acoustics lab meetings, 5S and brainstorming meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience Required

  • Associates degree or equivalent in a technical field with laboratory experience.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills when interacting with co-workers, be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally in English.
  • Familiar with acoustics and material manufacturing processes is a plus but not required.
