Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Chief Product Designer to join a premier North American modern furniture company. This is an opportunity to drive innovation and creativity in both office and home furniture design, offering the chance to significantly influence the style and direction of the brand portfolio. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of knowledge in the global furniture market, with a track record of delivering cutting-edge, trend-forward designs.
This is a remote position, with a preference for candidates based in New York, Toronto, or Montreal.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead the design vision across multiple brands, ensuring each maintains its distinct identity while aligning with the overarching creative direction.
- Transform the product portfolio strategy into innovative, on-trend designs that reflect customer preferences and market trends.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as product development, engineering, and portfolio strategy to ensure design feasibility and brand alignment.
- Lead and mentor the design team, encouraging creativity while maintaining high standards of excellence.
- Stay ahead of emerging design trends and industry developments, integrating new materials and innovations into the product line.
- Present design concepts and strategies to internal stakeholders, clearly communicating the rationale and product roadmaps.
- Coordinate with manufacturing partners in Asia to oversee production, managing several design projects concurrently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related discipline.
- 5-10 years of experience in the furniture industry, with a strong background in product design. Experience in RTA (ready-to-assemble) furniture is a plus.
- A robust design portfolio that showcases innovation, functionality, and leadership.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current design trends and the ability to interpret customer preferences.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to convey design concepts effectively.
- Prior experience in a multi-brand, fast-paced environment is an advantage.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, with sound business judgment and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Power BI.
- Established connections with manufacturers in Asia is a valuable asset.
- Travel across North America and to Asia (30% travel), with 4-6 trips to Asia annually, to oversee project development.
