Position Description:
We are seeking an Operations Manager who is responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance, and management of integrated operational dashboard solutions within the NIEHS (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences) environment. This role requires strong leadership in supervising technical teams to ensure real-time monitoring of availability, capacity, security, and performance of IT infrastructure. The Operations Manager will work closely with Government representatives to ensure compliance with NIH and HHS standards, manage security operations, and support Continuity of Operations (COOP) strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Dashboard Management:
Develop and maintain an operational dashboard to provide real-time visibility into the health of the IT environment, covering availability, capacity, security, and performance metrics.
Ensure dashboards are integrated with NIEHS systems and utilize existing tools to monitor trends, data metrics, and service level agreements (SLAs).
Network & Security Monitoring:
Monitor computer networks for security threats or unauthorized access and respond to security incidents.
Analyze security risks and implement remediation strategies in accordance with DISA STIGs and NIH standards.
Support the configuration and maintenance of security hardware and network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPN gateways, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
Audit & Compliance Support:
Prepare security documentation to support NIEHS, NIH, and GAO audits, ensuring compliance with HHS regulations.
Run government-specified tools to produce audit reports, analyze data, and provide detailed documentation, including network security reports.
Patch Management & Security Updates:
Manage the patch and security update process, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, and documentation related to patch and security processes.
Continuity of Operations (COOP) Management:
Assist in developing and maintaining the IT portion of the COOP plan, ensuring all systems at alternate sites are fully operational and configured identically to primary systems.
Implement technical solutions to ensure alternate systems are ready to take over within one hour in case of system failure.
Maintain the COOP strategy and update it to reflect any operational changes.
Team Leadership:
Supervise technical teams responsible for maintaining IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable and available services.
Establish operational objectives, assign responsibilities, and provide guidance to subordinate managers and staff.
Analyze complex operational problems and provide informed decisions based on in-depth evaluations of various factors.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with Government representatives, ensuring effective communication both orally and in writing to report on operational status, security, and compliance.
Provide staffing support for the activation and operation of IT components at the COOP site as required.
Requirements:
B.S. in Computer Science, Information Technology Management or Engineering
Minimum 7 years supervising technical teams to maintain reliable and available IT infrastructure and services.
Experience establishing operational objectives and assignments, and delegating assignments to subordinate managers and staff.
Experience working on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
Must be able to effectively communicate with Government representatives both orally and in writing.
Desired:
- Ability to leverage AI-driven tools like Microsoft Co-Pilot for operational efficiency, automation, and enhanced support processes.
Compensation and Benefits
The projected compensation range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
