A large government municipality located in Downtown Los Angeles is looking to hire a Part-Time UX/UI Designer / Dashboard Developer. This will be a 6+ month contract and the schedule will be 10-15 hours a week from the hours of 8am to 5pm. This will mostly remote, but may need to be onsite once every few months.

Description:

Provide data collection, data cleaning, and dashboard development services.

The selected consultant will design, develop, and maintain data databases and visualizations (e.g., web-based dashboards, graphs, diagrams, etc.) so the general public can access centralized information on youth data, youth services, and youth-related performance metrics. This contract includes producing and editing graphics and data visualizations using industry-standard tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, and ArcGIS).

Duties

  • Collecting, cleaning, storing, and integrating data from various sources into internal and cross-departmental databases
  • Producing data visualizations using industry-standard tools
  • Identifying and troubleshooting UI/UX problems (e.g., responsiveness, accessibility, ease of use, etc.) where the data will be stored and visualized
  • Performing database backups and restores, assist with data integration and data mapping, develop data validation and tuning tools and procedures
  • Ensuring that dashboards are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility requirements, accurate, current, and complete, and consistent with the City of Los Angeles goals and objectives on data integrity, security, and protection

Deliverables

  • Data collection tools and templates to retrieve and store information
  • Creation, maintenance, and integration of web-based databases and dashboards
  • Assessments of preferences and requirements from clients, users, department partners, and external partners
  • Effective, intuitive, and visually appealing dashboards and site navigation following user-centered design standards
  • Graphic user-interface elements, such as menus, modules, and embedded web apps

Required Skills

  • 2+ years of experience working with website design and UI/UX User Interface Design
  • Strong visual and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate dashboard features, functionality, and design plans
  • Experience producing interactive and engaging data stories for multiple audiences

Preferred Skills

  • Background in data visualization industry-standard tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.), Web Services, Multimedia Content Development
  • Experience working with different types of datasets across multiple formats (Excel, SQL, etc.)
