Primary Responsibilities
System Software Management & Support (30%)
- Lead the installation, maintenance, and upgrades of system and ISV software.
- Manage virtual tape backup systems and libraries.
- Provide high-level troubleshooting, training, and technical support, empowering users and project teams to succeed.
Escalated Support and Complex Issue Resolution (20%)
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex mainframe issues, solving advanced technical challenges.
- Ensure users have a positive support experience by communicating effectively and courteously.
Leadership, Mentorship, and Technical Guidance (20%)
- As a subject matter expert, handle the most complex technical issues.
- Mentor and coach team members, fostering growth and development.
- Serve as a backup to the manager, providing seamless leadership support when needed.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity (15%)
- Configure and ensure readiness of the disaster recovery mainframe site, including immutable storage systems.
- Lead disaster recovery exercises and play a critical role in business continuity efforts.
Compliance, Standards, and Emerging Trends (15%)
- Ensure mainframe operations align with server, network, security, and engineering standards.
- Stay informed on emerging trends and industry practices, helping to bring innovation to the team.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred).
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a mainframe environment, with extensive expertise and prior team lead or subject matter expert responsibilities.
Key Skills and Expertise
- Mainframe Expertise: In-depth knowledge of IBM z/OS mainframe and tools, including LPAR configuration, MQ Series, DB2 COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, and mainframe ISV software.
- File Structure Management: Experience with IBM file structures (HFS, ZFS, and PDSs), TSO, and DFSMS.
- Storage Solutions: Proficiency with IBM DS89xx disk subsystems, including replication, flash copies, and immutable storage staging (e.g., Copy Service Manager).
- Networking & Virtualization: Knowledge of Ethernet, FICON, and mainframe virtualization technologies, including zLinux.
- Backup & Recovery: Skilled in various backup solutions and disaster recovery strategies.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Proven ability to mentor and support team members while effectively communicating technical expertise.
- Compliance & Standards: Strong understanding of LAN/WAN/Firewall/VPN technologies, storage area networks, and compliance standards in a regulated industry.
