What you will be doing
We are seeking a Senior Director of Product Management to lead a team focused on generating innovative insights across trade promotions and associate retention. This role will oversee the Trade Promotions Manager, Associate Retention Manager, and two data interns, guiding their efforts with a strong focus on data-driven insights. A key aspect of the role is strategic storytelling and the ability to succinctly present problem statements and solutions. The emphasis is on the strategic aspect of product management, using insights to shape decisions rather than developing product backlogs initially.
The position will be based in Pleasanton CA.
Main responsibilities
The salary range is $ 218,900 to $ $297,380 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation Pay (accrued based on hours worked) or Flexible Time Off, paid holidays (8-9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (such as 401(k) eligibility). [If applicable:] Associates in this position are also eligible for a quarterly bonus.

What you will be doing
We are seeking a Senior Director of Product Management to lead a team focused on generating innovative insights across trade promotions and associate retention. Main responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Coaching: Provide guidance and daily coaching to the Trade Promotions Manager, Associate Retention Manager, and data interns, ensuring that their approach is grounded in strong data-driven insights. Cultivate an insights-driven mindset across the team, aligning their efforts with the strategic goals of the company.
- Strategic Insight Development: Focus on the strategic aspect of product management by guiding the team to develop and test hypotheses, generating innovative, data-driven insights. The role will initially focus on building and validating insights rather than developing product backlogs, though backlog creation may come later as needed.
- Strategic Storytelling & Presentation: Use strong strategic storytelling skills to succinctly present problem statements, insights, and proposed solutions. Guide the team in crafting narratives that effectively communicate complex issues in simple, actionable terms to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with merchandising, HR, and store operations teams to validate insights and ensure alignment with broader company objectives. Play a key role in gaining buy-in for innovative strategies from these cross-functional teams.
- Tool & System Knowledge: Use your knowledge of merchandising tools (item management, promotions, pricing, allowance, billing) and HR systems (labor scheduling, onboarding) to guide the team effectively. Preference will be given to candidates with deep expertise in merchandising tools to provide strong leadership and direction to junior staff.
- Data-Driven Innovation: Lead the team in developing innovative ideas based on data insights. Guide them in creating hypotheses and strategic recommendations that push beyond conventional solutions, ensuring fresh perspectives and actionable insights.
- Collaboration with VP: Work closely with the VP to receive guidance while providing strategic input on tackling trade promotion and associate retention challenges through a data-driven lens.

We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Data Science, Retail Management, or a related field.
- 10+ years' experience in product management and leadership roles, within retail or grocery environments, with exposure to both merchandising and HR systems.
- Proven ability to lead and coach a team, fostering a strong data-driven insights culture.
- Deep understanding of merchandising tools (item management, promotions, pricing, allowance, billing) and familiarity with HR systems (labor scheduling, onboarding). Preference for candidates with deep experience in merchandising systems from companies like Albertsons or similar.
- Strong ability to translate data-driven insights into strategic actions, with a focus on hypothesis testing and validation.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders through strategic storytelling and succinct problem presentations.
