Functions And Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Instructor is responsible for teaching and developing curriculum that integrates multiple disciplines within the social sciences, such as sociology, anthropology, political science, and psychology. This role involves delivering lectures, facilitating discussions, and guiding students through research projects that explore complex social phenomena from various perspectives.

Supervisory Role Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching and Instruction

  • Develop and deliver engaging lectures and course materials for undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Design and implement diverse instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles and promote active learning.
  • Assess and grade student work, providing constructive feedback to support academic growth.

Curriculum Development

  • Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary course curricula that reflect current trends and research in the social sciences.
  • Update course content regularly to ensure relevance and rigor.

Student Support

  • Advise and mentor students on academic and career matters, fostering their intellectual and professional development.
  • Facilitate opportunities for student research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Research and Scholarship

  • Engage in scholarly research within the social sciences, contributing to academic publications and conferences.
  • Stay current with developments in the field and integrate new knowledge into teaching practices.

Administrative Duties

  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other academic activities.
  • Contribute to the assessment and improvement of academic programs within the department.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience with online and hybrid teaching methods.
  • A record of published research in the social sciences.
  • Experience in curriculum development and academic advising.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities

  • A Master's or Doctoral degree in a relevant social science discipline or interdisciplinary studies.
  • Proven teaching experience, preferably at the college or university level.
  • Strong interdisciplinary knowledge and the ability to integrate concepts from various social science disciplines.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
