Essential Duties

1. Creates a relational database from existing study data currently stored in multiple data sources. Designs comprehensive and relational databases with advance knowledge of relevant applications impacting on the data analyses and reporting. 2. Develops and documents operational procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of study data. Documents all study data files, data structure and relationships, variable definitions and data codes. Writes detailed specifications for analysis files and performs consistency checks. 3. Develops and implements relevant statistical programs to incorporate data from multiple studies/projects. 4. Organizes and creates documents and tables related to datasets; communicates with data sources about data accuracy and data dictionary. 5. Evaluates and analyzes data using accepted statistical techniques and statistical analysis software. Performs descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of data, using computer software. 6. Uses advanced statistical knowledge to provide support in managing and analyzing data. 7. Designs and implements quality control measures to ensure accurate collection and processing of data. Ensures the integrity of databases used in analyses through development of essential data cleaning and checks, and data back-ups. 8. Responsible for the documentation and transmission of study data. Ensures that data are collected and completed in a timely manner at each site location. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Master's degree in statistics, computer science, business administration or a related field and two years of demonstrated experience in data management and analysis or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience. Demonstrated experience with data collection and in coordinating efforts of multiple groups.

Position Focus:

Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) seeks a Data Analyst for the Viral Emergence Research Initiative (Verena) NSF Biology Integration Institutes (BII) program, which supports a range of research, education, and outreach initiatives related to viral ecology, evolution, and emergence.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator of the BII program, the qualified candidate will oversee the expansion of Verena's open data infrastructure, including the maintenance of existing databases, the development of new platforms, and the management of large omic datasets.

Essential Duties include develop and improve pipelines for Verena core databases (e.g., VIRION). Maintain the back-end infrastructure for public-facing web interfaces to Verena databases (e.g., the PHAROS platform), and work closely with front-end developer(s) to improve interfaces and expand these platforms. Lead long-term efforts to combine Verena databases into a single integrated platform. Contribute to the testing and maintenance of software packages in open scientific programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Julia). Provide technical support for a multi-university collaborative project on the comparative immunology of wild bats, including data management for large proteomic datasets. Support on-team and external researchers with data entry and management. Support collaborative research with other Verena investigators related to the scientific mission of the program, including in areas such as proteomic analysis of animal immune responses to viral infection, or machine learning models of host-virus interactions. Participate in lab meetings and activities within the Yale Public Health Modeling Unit.

Proven experience with AirTable, AWS, PostGIS, Postgres, and/or SQL or equivalent, as well as other software for managing large datasets (e.g., Apache Arrow).
