As a Lab Automation Field Service Engineer III at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., you will have the exceptional opportunity to be a pivotal figure to our customers in the metro Boston area. You will supply them with solutions for the automated robotic platforms. Depending on service coverage in other regions, you may also have the chance to travel outside of this region.

How will you make a difference?

Join our national team effort to support the continuous development of biologic laboratory automation platforms and environmentally controlled automated incubators. You will play a collaborative role in providing support for these platforms with innovative software crafted for the multifaceted lab of the future.

A Day in the Life:
  • Solve technical hardware problems and accurately diagnose sophisticated issues using documentation, schematics, and drawings.
  • Work and connect with internal and external parties in a thoughtful, courteous, and coordinated manner to meet their service needs.
  • Manage your schedule and administrative tasks, including expenses, travel, customer preventative care schedules, field case reports, and non-conformance reporting.

Keys to Success:

To excel in this role, you should be a proven engineer specializing in automation and scheduling systems implementation, technical support, field installation, and service. Your outstanding ability to resolve sophisticated automation systems problems will set you apart. Additionally, your diverse research automation and diagnostic instrumentation knowledge will contribute to your success.

Education
  • Associate and/or Bachelor's degree in science or engineering, preferably in mechatronics, electronics, or robotics.
Experience
  • 5-7 years confirmed experience working with sophisticated environmental controls and measurement, robotics handling systems, dynamic software schedulers, and providing stable hardware solutions.
  • Experience in field engineering of technically sophisticated devices in a clinical or research environment.
  • Solid understanding of measurement tools, such as CO2, O2, relative humidity, and multimeter operation.
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and clear verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read detailed schematics (Electronic and Pneumatic).
  • Familiarity with general lab practices, PC hardware, and peripherals, and basic network setup.
  • Ability to work remotely and travel up to 75-90% within the region.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

This role requires the ability to lift 50 lbs. You can expect to work primarily in biological and clinical research laboratories and from a home office workspace.

Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $43.70-$52.88.
