The Operations and Systems Engineering team in Supply Chain is responsible for developing processes and systems to support reliable and efficient flow of all direct materials to Tesla's factories, distribution centers, service locations, installation sites and other relevant sites. As a Supply Chain Planning Engineer, you will work with all teams across the world and deliver operational improvements, systems capabilities, and data insights that are critical in order to support increasing production volume and support fleet size.
You will work with planning, logistics, warehousing and other stakeholders across the company to identify key operational and systems improvements required for end to end scalability and efficiency. You will be a thought leader in developing solutions as well as managing the implementation and program execution. This requires you to acquire deep subject matter knowledge about the different supply chain and transportation processes, systems and KPIs. It is essential that you can think strategically, connecting the dots in the bigger picture, as well as being comfortable in the details of the deliverables. The role is highly visible and is expected to simultaneously handle multiple projects at organizational scale and global reach. Responsibilities
- Identify, analyze and solve problems related to simplification, optimization and automation in systems, data or procedures for supply chain and logistics operations
- Conduct research and collaborate with planners, vendors, customers, warehouse, logistics and software engineers to develop and deploy efficient and effective solutions
- Develop training materials and SOPs that reflect current system behavior, common supply chain scenarios and provide precise instructions with clear examples. Monitor, promote and maintain knowledge levels to ensure high and appropriate usage
- Define and efficiently track KPIs to measure success metrics including operational performance, frequency of issues, software usage and effectiveness while ensuring data availability and accuracy
- Own and monitor automated processes, manage input parameters and adjust algorithms or mathematical models implemented across systems, as necessary, to meet business objectives, optimizing for cost and responsiveness. Troubleshoot and triage queries and issues reported by operations and work with different teams such as suppliers, carriers and software support engineers as necessary, to resolve them
- Provide updates on upcoming initiatives and business efficiency, and collect feedback from planners, factory, and other stakeholder teams globally, to develop and drive the roadmap. Test the system for expected behavior before changes are released and work with relevant parties to address any issues or gaps found before, during and after deployment
- Define and document detailed system requirements with comprehensive scenarios and expected behaviors, test cases, operational dependencies, risks and project plan. Participate in technical discussions with software developers related to backend design, response rates and architecture in order to balance between effort and value
Requirements
- Degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability
- 2+ years' work experience in planning, supply chain, manufacturing, or business operations OR at least 1 year managing software development projects and products in a business or technical role or working with ERP data on extensive basis
- Structured, data-driven and quantitative problem solving approach. Ability to query, analyze and present data
- Proven ability to set expectations, manage to deadlines and hold individuals and teams accountable to critical milestones. Ability to drive strategic discussions and convert strategy to action. Ability to successfully work with a cross range of teams including IT, operations, finance and resolve issues across systems and organizational boundaries
- Supply chain, Logsistics or Distribution experience. Professional knowledge of transportation and trade related terms and regulations
- Experience with process improvement toolkits (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen etc.) Experience with Agile methodology for product development. Ability to read the software codebase and experience with machine learning and vision systems
- SAP or Oracle ERP knowledge, paired with ability to apply it to custom built systems. Proficiency with SQL, NoSQL GQL, DDL and Tableau, PowerBI, Excel. Professional level expertise with R or Python for data analysis and manipulation

$92,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
