General Description / Language to Use for Job Postings:
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for applying Lean concepts to volume manufacturing of electrical cabinets at the CMA Chattanooga location. This person will work directly with the production team and under the supervision of the VP of Operations. This is a great opportunity to play an integral role in the scale up of a new production operation and the ground-up implementation of a Lean production system.
Reports to: VP of Operations Responsibilities:
Conduct time studies and multi-cycle analysis to optimize production layouts and work cell configuration, relative to takt time.
Develop and update work instructions and job aids to document current best practices and ensure quality.
Work with the production team daily on issue resolution and continuous improvement opportunities.
Lead continuous improvement projects and events.
Identify and develop justifications for automation opportunities to improve safety, quality, and/or productivity.
Work with the team to implement and sustain 5S and visual management throughout.
Attend daily accountability meetings and work with production leadership to ensure effectiveness.
Participate in and lead problem solving teams, coaching good problem-solving practices and behaviors. Leverage 5-Whys, 8D, Ishikawa diagrams, and other tools, to promote effective root cause analysis.
Analyze production data and develop trends and pareto charts to focus improvement efforts on impactful opportunities, and then to measure the impact of improvements.
Develop and implement material handling strategies (pull, kanban, etc.) to ensure material availability and minimize inventory. May include work with customers and suppliers to ensure optimization of the entire system.
Be a coach and mentor to spread Lean thinking throughout the team, helping others understand and apply key concepts.
Requirements:
Ability to work independently.
Must have strong communication skills across all levels of the business.
Must be a team player and enjoy collaboration with others.
Must have strong computer skills with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
May be required to travel up to 10% - primarily for trips to the secondary production site in Greenville, SC.
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or other engineering fields strongly preferred
Associates degree in a technical field with equivalent years of experience will be considered
Minimum Previous Experience:
5+ years of experience implementing lean concepts in volume production environments
Other Skills:
Experience developing PFMEAs and control plans is a plus
Experience working in an ISO 9001 (or comparable) certified operation is preferred
Proficient in the use of computers, email, and cell phone to communicate
