This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
In this role you will be responsible for leading the design, development, manufacturing and testing of launch vehicle umbilical systems with an emphasis on reducing launch cost. You will engage in all levels of the design and production cycle including conceptual design, requirements definition, detailed design, integration, test, and mission support. You will use creative thinking and novel manufacturing solutions to solve sophisticated problems with high pressure, cryogenic, and highly stressed hardware.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintain engineering integrity by configuration management of engineering data and production configuration through production and launch phases.
- Maintain and upkeep of design data supporting production and launch readiness for each vehicle and ground system in production or operation.
- Lead or support in-service issue root cause investigation and resolution implementation.
- Capture and document lessons learned of product performance.
- Apply sound engineering judgement and decision making in support of production and supply chain to achieve program production rate, including but not limited to production artifact review and approval, non-conformance disposition, production, and test support.
- Develop and implement design improvements to increase production rate.
- Drive design for manufacturability. Update assembly and test procedures for flight hardware identified through root cause analysis, manufacturing, testing, flight, and cost reduction opportunities.
- Partner with cross functional team (supply chain, production, manufacturing, launch operation, quality, project management) shepherding a given scope through production and launch.
- Work with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS Preferred).
- Deliver completed designs using best draft practicing per ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards along with clear and well detailed analysis reports.
- Evening and weekend production support may be necessary.
- Travel as necessary to ensure effective and efficient work pace (up to 20% may be required)
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering.
- 3+ years of professional engineering experience with complex fluid systems.
- Demonstrated experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle fluid or mechanical system and component design or test or manufacturing.
- Demonstrated practical understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
- Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, pressure vessels, flex elements and fittings.
- Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes and quality control relative to tubes/piping and machined components.
- Working knowledge of materials and treatments.
- Working knowledge of configuration management principles and practices.
- Possess high attention to detail and strong organizational/coordination skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and quick thinking to keep the project moving forward.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting and effective working relationships that improve team performance and deliver results.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. of Engineering.
- Solid understanding of cryogenic material properties and testing.
- Experience with component and system testing, troubleshooting, and data acquisition systems.
- Project management skills, including supplier management, scheduling, and budget tracking.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends to support build and test.
