Developer III (cobol/jcl)

What s the major objective(s) of the role? Work will be to create data extracts to support the conversion of Group Dental business from a legacy mainframe application.

REQUIRED technologies or skills for this position:

• COBOL
• JCL
• Working knowledge of VSAM file structures
• Strong analytical skills
• Able to work independently and provide delivery estimates based on project expectations.

Technologies or skills NOT REQUIRED but NICE TO HAVE:

• Familiarity with EZTrieve.
• Familiarity with Endeavor
• Familiarity with CA-7 scheduler.

This job is responsible being an individual contributor to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of business applications, providing specialized technical or business knowledge to projects. Incumbents act as internal consultants, providing technical guidance or business process expertise on the most complex projects or researching strategic planning matters from a technical or business standpoint. This position will identify causes and implement solutions to business problems in a multifunctional project, assessing and communicating issues of technology impact on the business.

Responsibilities:
1. Provide technical expertise within an assigned business unit/area in the analysis, design, and development of business applications.
2. Provide technical consulting support on projects or system issues.
3 . Must be an independent, innovative, creative thinker with little to no supervision and prioritize all tasks.
4. Ability to deliver effective and compelling communication to all areas of the business. Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and be a self starter.

Qualifications:

o 5+ Years of Experience
o Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent work experience.
o Strong technical knowledge, with hands-on experience managing systems development mainframe environments; knowledge or relevant technology, tools, and middleware is critical.
o Strong in both breadth and depth of experience with multiple programming languages and development techniques.
o Capable of complex project work .
o Strong ability to accurately estimate project development activities.
o Ability to work in a fast paced team environment.
o Minimum of 6 years experience in business application design, development, installation and modification in an IT environment.
o Conceptual knowledge of information technologies and methodologies in mainframe computing environments desirable; in-depth experience in one or more areas is critical.

Mainframe application support development analyst. Candidate would provide development support for conversion from existing legacy Dental application.

Preferred skills:

• COBOL development
• JCL development
• Working knowledge of VSAM files
• DB2 knowledge helpful
