Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Artificial Intelligence (AI) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide support for the Dean of Faculty at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). The AI SME will play a critical role in advancing AI-related technologies and methodologies in academic research, advising on AI strategies, and implementing cutting-edge AI solutions. This position requires a unique combination of technical expertise, teaching ability, and AI innovation, tailored to a university research environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- AI and Cybersecurity Assessment: Evaluate current and emerging AI and AI-related cybersecurity technologies for academic and research purposes.
- AI Strategy & Policy Advisory: Advise the Dean of Faculty on AI academic and research policy, strategy, and architectural concerns.
- Faculty Liaison: Serve as the Dean's AI coach, promoting AI curriculum development, research experimentation, and adoption among faculty.
- Model Development: Implement deep learning models using Python, C++, or GPU-based toolkits such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and CUDA.
- Performance Optimization: Analyze and interpret AI model performance, making recommendations for improvements.
- Model Troubleshooting: Diagnose AI model under-performance and implement solutions to enhance model efficacy.
- RAG & LLM Implementation: Fine-tune and integrate Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Large Language Models (LLMs) for USAFA's specific research objectives.
- Transfer Learning: Utilize transfer learning techniques to train and adapt deep learning models for customer use.

About You:
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in implementing deep learning algorithms using Python or C++, with experience running models on parallel GPUs using toolkits such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or CUDA.
- Ability to develop and fine-tune custom Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Knowledge of NVIDIA Mission Command and enterprise GPU server management tools.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML infrastructure design and implementation.
- Experience training and assisting faculty in AI/ML methodologies.
University/Research Experience:
- Experience in using AI in a university and/or research setting is strongly desired.
- Broad experience in applying AI to various disciplines is preferred.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- Specialization in AI, machine learning, AI/ML infrastructure, and cybersecurity is highly desired.
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with high-paced, university-level research environments.
- Demonstrated experience in integrating AI solutions across a wide range of academic disciplines.
