POSITION DUTIES

Located in downtown Annapolis, The Comptroller of Maryland's Revenue administration division has an amazing opportunity within the Taxpayer Accounting section for a Revenue Specialist I to join our team. We are looking for an energetic, team player for our section.

The ideal candidate should be proficient in processing of amended returns and/or correcting financial data and tax calculations for taxpayer returns/reports and related transactions. This responsibility encompasses multiple tax types and includes all financial maintenance necessary after the initial data posts to computer system files. A Revenue Specialist I is an advanced level of processing of adjustments/amended returns. Employees in this classification do not supervise others and will receive general supervision from a designated Revenue Specialist II. This position is telework eligible after successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.

Please Note: May be requested to work evenings and/or Saturdays during tax Season. For the purposes of this statement, Tax Season shall be defined as the period beginning 1/15 and closing 5/15. THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO CURRENT TEMPORARY, CONTRACTUAL AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES OF COMPTROLLER OF MARYLAND.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate, including or supplemented by a course in bookkeeping or accounting.

Experience: Three years of experience performing work in tax assessments, collections, investigations, examinations, adjustments or taxpayer services within two or more of the specialized fields of revenue administration, or performing work in tax assessments, collections, investigations, examinations, adjustments or taxpayer services within the motor fuel/motor carrier tax field. The specialized fields may include sales and use tax, income tax, admissions and amusement tax, withholding tax, alcohol and tobacco tax, and any other revenue levy authorized by the legislature.

Notes

  • Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in finance technician classification or finance technician specialty codes in the financial clerical and technician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html.

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SMART and RPE tax systems
  • Knowledge of Maryland State Income Tax
  • Knowledge of Federal Income Tax Experience with computer applications
  • Knowledge of Maryland state regulations and forms
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience with handling large volumes of work & prioritizing

  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
