Job Title: Network Administrator/Systems Administrator
Job Location: Hybrid position at Benet Laboratories in Watervliet Arsenal, NY 2 or 3 days/wk on-site
Salary: $80,000 - $150,000 (The salary range provided is a general guideline. We are seeking a skilled Network Administrator/Systems Administrator to join our team within Benet Laboratories at Watervliet Arsenal, NY. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the on-site network infrastructure. This role involves providing support across various operating systems, installing and configuring network equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs, and coordinating with service providers and remote support staff during implementations and outages. The Network Administrator/Systems Administrator will ensure network connectivity for all workstations, offer network support to users, and maintain servers along with associated hardware, applications, and services. Additionally, the role includes developing and monitoring policies for network resource usage, managing disaster recovery and backup systems, and recommending and evaluating security improvements and system upgrades. Monitoring network performance, managing network users and permissions, testing product releases for compatibility and user impact, and creating technical support documentation for systems and applications are also key responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities:
Responsible for network design and implementation.
Provide network support with a variety of operating systems.
Install and configure computer network equipment including routers, switches,
firewalls, and VPN
Coordinate with service providers and support staff at remote installations during
network implementations and outages.
Maintain network connectivity of all computer workstations.
Provide network support to users.
Maintain servers and associated hardware, applications, services, and settings.
Develop and monitor policies for the use of network resources.
Implement and manage disaster recovery and back-up.
Evaluate and recommend security improvements and system upgrades.
Monitor network to ensure optimal performance.
Create and maintain network users/permissions.
Test release of products to minimize user impact and ensure compatibility.
Create technical support documentation for systems and applications.
Qualifications:
Network Administrator/Systems Administrator Qualifications/Skills:
Fundamental knowledge of networking concepts to include Layer 2 and
Layer 3 networking protocols (e.g. Ethernet, VLAN, ARP, BGP, OSPF)
Proven network engineering, network operations, and network performance analysis
skills.
Hands-on technical troubleshooting capabilities.
Strong understanding of various Cisco technologies (e.g. Catalyst,
Nexus, ASR, ASA, Firepower, ISE).
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
Knowledge of computing infrastructures.
Familiarity with server management and monitoring tools.
Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
Strong interpersonal skills to assist non-technical individuals with complex technical
issues.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor s degree in computer science or a related field, or 5+ years of relevant
experience in lieu of a degree.
2+ years experience in a network administration/systems administration role
Security+ Certification required.
Previous experience with Cisco switches, routers, and firewalls preferred.
CISSP, CCNA, or CCNP certification a plus.
