Compensation:

[Starting / Initial] Base Salary Pay Range: $40,000 - $90,000

Responsibilities:

Cogent Communications LLC is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Data Center Critical Systems Engineer in the Washington DC or Herndon VA area. The successful candidate will have the technical experience to engage and oversee vendors for critical infrastructure installations, upgrades and failures, supporting site engineering projects for budget, risks and deliverables. You should have working knowledge of data center critical systems including structural, fire systems, generators, UPS power, Batteries ( used in UPS & DC Rectifier Plants), HVAC, chillers, security, diesel/fuel storage vessels

  • Responsibilities include the engineering and design of the power, space, and cooling aspects of our data centers in North America
  • Liaising with the Data Center Operations team to maintain site capacity including electrical, mechanical and control systems
  • Direct the coordination of local Data Center Operations teams and contractors to support the installation and maintenance of critical infrastructure
  • Provide cost-effective data center solutions that meet the requirements of the business.
  • Participate in remote data center audits, as required, for the facility infrastructure that is conducted by both internal and external entities
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing the design and engineering of the data centers and the standards by which the facility infrastructure is to be operated and maintained with the support of local site Data Center Operations teams

Qualifications:

The position requires having an in-depth knowledge of the electrical & mechanical infrastructure that is required to support data center environments, including the testing and validation of different types of batteries used in a data center & telecom environment – in both UPS systems and DC Rectifier Plants.

  • In-depth knowledge of the overall data center environment that spans across the facility, raised floor, and structured cabling infrastructure
  • A minimum of 5 years engineering critical building or data center systems experience.
  • Proficiency in the design and operation of data center critical facility infrastructure. This includes UPS, Cooling, and backup power systems
  • The ability to present complex engineering subject matter to a non-technical audience. Effective interpersonal and communication skills ( written and oral) to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize workload with a strong ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams and the organization
  • Good teamwork, communication/information sharing skills and influencing skills are necessary
  • Experience with CAD applications, Visio, and MS suite of software tools are essential
