Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Cost Accountant to work for our Ohio client. The ideal candidate aligns with the responsibilities and qualifications outlined below.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and evaluate cost data, including material, labor, and overhead expenses, to identify areas of improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports, variance analysis, and profitability analysis to provide insights into the company's financial performance.
  • Monitor and report on key cost metrics and indicators, highlighting trends and deviations from budgets or standards.
  • Maintain and enhance the cost accounting system, ensuring accurate and up-to-date cost data is available for analysis and reporting purposes.
  • Develop and implement cost accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Review and improve cost allocation methodologies, ensuring consistency and accuracy across different cost centers and projects.
  • Collaborate with the inventory management team to ensure accurate valuation of inventory, including monitoring inventory levels, reconciling discrepancies, and performing regular inventory audits.
  • Analyze and report on inventory costs, obsolescence, and slow-moving items, providing recommendations for optimization and reduction of carrying costs.
  • Conduct financial analysis on cost-related data, identifying trends, patterns, and opportunities for cost improvement.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management on cost optimization strategies, pricing decisions, and product profitability analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation is highly desirable.
  • 4+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles, practices, and standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and perform variance analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
  • Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and compliance requirements.
