Overview:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for a healthcare organization is responsible for overseeing all financial activities, developing financial strategies, managing financial risks, and ensuring the financial health of the organization. This executive-level role involves collaborating with other senior leaders to drive the organization’s financial performance, optimize healthcare delivery costs, and enhance overall organizational growth and sustainability. The ideal candidate is experienced in healthcare finance, understands regulatory compliance in the healthcare sector, and is skilled in strategic financial planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy & Planning:
· Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational goals and mission.
· Forecast financial needs, manage cash flow, and advise the CEO and board on financial matters.
· Conduct long-term financial planning and risk management to ensure financial sustainability.
Financial Management:
· Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and auditing to ensure transparency and accuracy.
· Manage and control all financial transactions and develop internal controls to safeguard assets.
· Ensure compliance with all healthcare financial regulations, including federal, state, and local laws.
Operational & Revenue Cycle Management:
· Oversee revenue cycle processes to ensure effective billing, coding, collections, and claims processing.
· Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to reduce operating costs while maintaining quality care.
· Identify cost-saving opportunities in all aspects of healthcare operations.
Leadership & Collaboration:
· Lead and mentor the finance team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
· Work with other executives to shape policies, drive initiatives, and promote financial responsibility.
· Foster a collaborative culture focused on achieving the organization’s financial and operational goals.
Compliance & Risk Management:
· Develop and implement risk management policies to address financial, operational, and regulatory risks.
· Stay up-to-date with changes in healthcare finance regulations and ensure compliance.
· Work with auditors and compliance officers to conduct regular financial audits and address findings.
Financial Performance Analysis:
· Analyze financial performance, create reports, and provide actionable insights to drive decision-making.
· Use data analytics to monitor healthcare trends, identify revenue opportunities, and predict financial risks.
· Present financial updates to the board of directors, ensuring clarity on the organization’s financial status.
Qualifications:
· Education: Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field; CPA or CFA is preferred.
· Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare finance, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
· Skills: Strong knowledge of healthcare financial systems, regulatory requirements, revenue cycle management, and operational efficiency.
· Competencies: Strategic thinker, excellent communicator, strong analytical skills, and ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership.
Preferred Attributes:
· Knowledge of current healthcare technology, value-based care, and reimbursement methodologies.
· Experience working with not-for-profit or for-profit healthcare organizations.
· Proven ability to drive cost-saving initiatives and improve financial efficiency without compromising care quality.
