The Director of Business Development role will entail both remote work and onsite work at On Time Trucking's locations in Farmingdale, New York. As a Director of Business Development your primary responsibility is to drive revenue growth by identifying new business opportunities, building relationships with potential clients, and converting leads into customers. You will play a crucial role in expanding the company's market presence, meeting sales targets, and contributing to overall business success. This role will be reporting to the VP of Business Development building our Transportation Services footprint in New York and nationally. The ideal candidate will have management experience in operations and sales of transportation services, LTL & Cartage.

Requirements:

Prospecting and Lead Generation:

  • Identify and research potential clients and markets.
  • Generate leads through various channels such as cold calling, email outreach, networking events, and social media platforms.
  • Utilize sales and marketing tools to identify and qualify prospects

Building Relationships:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with prospects, key decision-makers, and stakeholders
  • Conduct meetings, presentations, and product demonstrations to showcase the company's offerings.
  • Understand clients' needs, challenges, and objectives to propose tailored solutions.

Sales Strategy and Pipeline Management:

  • Develop and implement effective sales strategies to achieve targets and maximize revenue.
  • Manage sales pipelines efficiently, from lead generation to closure.
  • Track and report on sales metrics, activities, and outcomes using CRM systems.
  • Leverage overall company network to facilitate the growth of the transportation service offering

Negotiation and Closing:

  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with clients to ensure mutually beneficial agreements.
  • Overcome objections and address concerns to facilitate deal closure.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure smooth onboarding and delivery processes.

Market Analysis and Feedback:

  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities.
  • Provide feedback to the marketing and product teams to refine offerings and improve market positioning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Operations Management:

  • Ensure smooth operations, including the scheduling, routing and dispatching of vehicles. Also managing loading and unloading process in freight operations.
  • Responsible for managing staff, such as drivers, dispatchers, and logistics coordinators. They oversee hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure that all transportation activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including vehicle maintenance, driver qualifications, and cargo handling.
  • A significant part of the job involves overseeing the company's fleet of vehicles, ensuring they are maintained, adequately utilized, and compliant with safety standards. This can also involve working with leasing or asset management teams.
  • Work with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and other logistics software to track and optimize routes, monitor shipments, and maintain vehicle status.
  • Develop strategies to improve efficiency, implement new technologies (like route optimization tools), and make critical decisions regarding expansion, cost reduction, or sustainability.

Qualifications:

  • Proven record of accomplishments and success in 3PL sales, business development, or a related role focusing on large Enterprise accounts.

  • Strong networking abilities and relationship-building skills.
  • Goal-oriented mindset with a drive to exceed targets and deliver results.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other sales tools.
  • 5-10 years of management experience in both sales and operations within transportation services with a focus on LTL, Cartage.
